CCLA Week 11, April 9-April 15

Postby Andy Sharp on Tue Apr 17, 2007 10:59 pm

Calvin won another close one tonight in overtime 9-8 over GVSU.

Calvin 3 1 3 1 1
GVSU 2 3 1 2 0

Similar to NMU, we had a two goal lead late in the 4th and could not manage to hold off GVSU as they scored 2 late to tie it up. Both teams had opps in OT, but it ended on an goal-line iso dodge by Lucas H-W.

The team is pretty banged up, played without 2 key attackmen tonight and several players under the weather. We did get our goalie B. Buursma back from his broken foot after 3 or 4 games off. Expect to take some time to heal and pull things together before we finish up our make-up games early next week.

In case you didn't hear my predictions that we had a tough conference, these past 3 games have been more than enough to convince me. Each of these teams were as good, if not better than the #6 Harding team we lost to by 2 goals earlier this season without Lucas H-W.

Next year I would like to see more teams seek OOC games against Top 25 teams in search of the respect nationally that I have for our teams locally. CMU is a good example. I do recommend that you do your best to schedule the games for after you can get practice on a full field, we have made that mistake repeatedly.

IUP 12 Grove City 8
Grove City came out flat and fell behind early 8-2 and where not able to fight there way back despite a nice second half effort.

It is a shame IUP is so unorganized because they do have some good athletes.

Buffalo and Indiana tried to play at IU earlier, but the field was rained out and the school wouldn't allow it to happen.

According to the CCLA bylaws, if they are not able to make up the game then they both receive a loss on their schedule. We have no good way of displaying this on mcla.us or collegelax.us so instead it shows as a non game.

Buffalo and Pitt are thus tied in league standings, but Buffalo won the head to head game so they are the 1 seed in the south.
