The only problem I see with Sonoma is that they have not been themselves this year (powerhouse status). Most of their big games were early on, and lost to big teams like Oregon, CSU and BYU. The Oregon and BYU games were close and could have gone either way later on in the season. The reason there is so much talk about the other teams is because of the way they have been playing lately. I think the Sonoma-Arizona game is going to be a battle, mainly because Sonoma is trying to prove that they are still the top caliber team they have been and Arizona is going in thinking about the loss in the Championship game from last year. Too close to call.....

First and foremost, Thanks for the love Train. The Arizona-Sonoma game should be another great coaching battle. From my experience the Sonoma coaching staff has always come up with a great game plan to counter Arizona. Arizona's main advantage over last year is that they have more offensive options than they did for last years championship. It should make for a great game, but Arizona wins by at least.....3

Now I'm going to try to say this as lightly as I can. I mean no offense to ASU, but they really need to patch up that defense. I have noticed all season that they are giving up high numbers to teams they play even when they win. They have a very powerful offense and a great coach, but in order to compete in Dallas, something needs to be done.

There was a constant drizzle throughout the game. Several stick penalties were called on ASU early probably because they are used to the dry Arizona weather. The score was 4-3 ASU at the half when UCSB went on a 6 goal run. There was no coming back from that. Two goals were put in by ASU at the end of the game on man-up opportunities.

The Gauchos dominated time of possession. They won all but two or three faceoffs because of the outstanding play by Masato Takeshita. He is probably the best faceoff guy in the WCLL and one of the top in the country. He definitely deserves some All-League honors. ASU's offense was shut down by UCSB. Ryan Westfall had a few nice rips from up top, but Tyler Westfall and Eric Nelson were shut down by Elliot Carney and Doug Abate. Go Gauchos!

Can you just give a short summary of it, how both teams looked and whatnot? I'm somewhat surprised by the score, I thought it would be closer than a 5-goal game. Just anything info you could give would be seriously appreciated...

I would say that the score doesn't reflect the domination laid down by the Gauchos. Because of UCSB's slow start, it was closer than it seemed. Might also be my bias, but a lot of the people at the game thought the same thing.

from an unbiased point of view I am going to have to agree with RB. Many of ASU's goals in the first half came off of unsettled situations whether that be in transition or from a deflected or blocked shot. In the second half many of their goals came man up by moving the ball across the top and then down to an attackman who would immediately quick sticked it to the creaseman. The third quarter is where everything seemed to shift in favor of the gauchos. I think the utter domination can be easily expressed through one simple fact. ASU had the ball on offense twice in the third with one of those times resulting in them being offsides and the other for the last 30 seconds of the period. ASU could just not clear the ball. SB looked good with crisp ball movement and one more note, flour tortilla's seem to fly better than corn.

Couldn't agree more. I was shocked by how weak ASU looked for a #4 team (how many pollsters have actually seen them play?). UCSB had possesion at least 90% of the game. The ASU defense seemed utterly incapable of clearing the ball.
