PNCLL Final Four Weekend

Here is the schedule of games:

Saturday, April 28

11AM Southern Oregon vs. Montana
2PM Pacific Lutheran vs. Western Washington
5PM Boise State vs. Oregon
8PM Oregon State vs. Simon Fraser

Sunday, April 29

11AM B Division Final
2:30PM A Division Final


There will be a youth clinic Friday night from 6-8 PM with several coaches around the league participating. If anyone out there is interested in helping out at the clinic and you have not yet been contacted, please email me at jstock6@aol.com.

Our all-league teams will be announced on the field on Saturday. The B division all-stars and awards will be given out after the Montana vs. Southern Oregon game, and the A division awards will be announced and given out after the 5PM game is completed.

All teams involved in the tourney will be contacted with the details for the weekend later this week.

I take it then that there will NOT be an awards banquet this year?

The cafeteria at Curtis High School fell through, and we called all around town and the cheapest dinner we could do for around 200 people was about $18.95 per person. . .and we know that won't work with the league's budget or your average student's budget. Also, with games being played late on Saturday, several teams aren't coming into town until Saturday morning.

By doing the awards on the field hopefully we'll have most of the all-league players present to receive their awards.

I'm not happy about the banquet being unworkable, but with all of the games on the same field there are positives and negatives. The positives are that everyone will be able to view every game. . .one of the negatives is that it makes it impossible to do a banquet on Saturday (10:30PM??).

We had our PNCLL Youth Clinic tonight at Curtis High School, and I must say I am extremely proud of what just took place. We had nearly 100 kids ages 8-16. . .each of them walked out of the stadium with tons of great coaching and a T-shirt with the PNCLL logo on it. Will Moss, Montana's photographer extraordinaire (also employed by collegelax.us) brought 60 posters of the Montana team, and there were literally tears in the eyes of kids who didn't leave with a poster (needless to say they will get an autographed copy in the mail.)

The clinic was a huge success, and I hope it ends up being a new tradition at tournament host schools in the future. In addition to coaches Brent Hoskins and Jeff Cathrea of SFU, Kevin Flynn of Montana, Kyle Berggren and Kevin Leary of UPS. . .we had a huge group of current players from SFU, PLU, Montana and UPS.

The kids received tons of one-on-one coaching and attention, and I truly feel several kids left the clinic truly inspired with enriched passion for the game we all love so much.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the clinic, including the boosters from Curtis High School who have donated their time and hard work to insure that this weekend is successful and flows seamlessly.

I hope the games are as good as the people working to make the tournament a success. . .

Western Washington over PLU, 8-5.

Oregon over Boise, 17-6 (unofficial).

SFU and OSU are taking the field.

SFU 19 - 6 OSU

SFU looked dominant from the start, ending the half up 10-1. OSU couldn't seem to get anything going at all, and a strong SFU offense fired on all cylinders. All of SFU's players worked in, with the starters getting to rest the second half for tomorrow's game.

UO should be fresh too coming off a big win over BSU. State looked great in the first quarter knotting it at 2-2 and even extending a 4-3 lead midway through the 2nd quarter. After that , the Ducks stepped it up and didn't look back taking a 9-4 halftime lead to a 17-6 finish.

Tomorrow should be an epic game, with SFU looking to end the Duck's 3 year dominance of the PNCLL final game. Expect senior snipers Coffman and Christians to square off in a shootout, looking to lead their respective teams to a victory. Snatching the AQ from the Ducks is SFU's only chance to see Texas this year, and the Ducks are certainly looking to be the lone team in the lone star state this May.
