Maybe because he is on the board of directors of the NRA?

I don't really follow Ted Nugent, yet I know he is a hunter. He currently has a home in China Spring, Texas which is a little bit north of Waco.

And what qualifications does he have for that job? Outspoken gun owner?

He has no legal credentials. No writing credentials. He is in no way a figure with any sway in our public policy making... and yet he's on the front page of cnn.com with a detailed article about why gun control is a bad idea.

Shame on CNN for going to someone like Ted Nugent for gun control discussions and not someone on Capitol Hill who is actually accountable to us as American citizens.

Capitol Hill accountable? I hardly think so!

Since when does one need legal credentials or writing credentials to express an opinion? Ted Nugent has been very active with this issue for years and although I'm no gun supporter he is credible and a highly regarded spokesman.

I'm glad to see CNN actually show a non-liberal viewpoint for once, that's an extremely rare event in my opinion!

And yes I'm disgusted by NBC's blatant exploitation of this week's tragedy, we should all boycott them!

NBC

Postby Ken Lovic on Fri Apr 20, 2007 10:55 pm

Local NBC channel will be at he Va Tech/UF game tomorrow. Not sure my thoughts on that but I hope they let the kids play and try to allow them a clear head as they deal with this tragedy and try to "play on".

Thanks to TGE Direct/Joey Losurdo who donated VT ribbon stickers for the teams to wear this weekend at the SELC's.

Going to a celebrity as your front page article about something as serious as gun control is in extremely poor taste.

Perhaps we can have a rebuttal by Ozzy Osbourne? Or perhaps Jessica Simpson? God knows we have enough reality stars out there with opinions that need to be shared with the American public on the front page of cnn.com.

Where are the OpEd pieces by McCain, Obama, Reid, and Frist? I should not be getting my news from Ted Nugent and CNN should know better than to present that type of meaningless soft news when law makers are sitting by silently.

celebrities have always been used as the front man(woman) for organizations. Look at Angelina Jolie and Madonna. All working as front people for aids and babies needing adoption. For some reason Americans are obsessed with celebrities and will pay attention when they speak.

I personally liked his article, as somone who was muged at a mall parking lot and had to go through that i wish i had my gun back then. Just because someone is carrying around a gun with a CCW doesnt mean they are going to use the gun. Pulling out a gun can be a big deterent for a criminal. The process of getting a ccw is a lengthy one and requires multiple background checks at the state and federal level. No criminal is going to get a CCW but they will still get a gun on the street. The people to fear is not he ones with the CCW permit its the guys who are buying guns on the street.

Ted Nugent has sat on the board of directors for the NRA for the past ten years or so. He was elected to that board multiple times. He has been an avid hunter for over 40 years. He has his own hunting show and magazine.

Whether you like him or not, he does seem to have credentials to discuss guns in America.

You mentioned some senators names and asked why they are not speaking out about gun control? Because you are elected senator, does that automatically make you a gun expert? And yes I realize McCain was a Vietnam POW.

Nugent's piece was an opinion. So was the JOURNALIST Tom Plate who wrote about how guns should be outlawed.....both on the same website. This isn't news, it is insight into both the pro and anti gun lobby. Why aren't you complaining about the journalist (from LA) Tom Plate and how he doesn't seem to have the creditentials to discuss the gun debate? I don't know Mr. Plate's background, maybe he has some experience with guns. At least we know Nugent has some personal stake in the debate.

In both cases they are extreme views.......what the NRA doens't mention is how many accidential gun deaths there are in America. For every life that could have been saved in these shootings, there were countless others lost due to the fact people (kids) had access to guns. What the anti-gun lobby doesn't really want to deal with is shaving a little off the Constitution to get rid of guns. Or since Minnesota enacted conceal and carry, has there even been one incident of a lawful gun carrier committing a crime?

From Peter King's Non-football Thoughts:

a. I think the saddest thing about the Virginia Tech tragedy is that we're starting to become hardened to these things. There's a fine line between moving on with life and realizing there's something seriously wrong in this country. The ease with which guns can be obtained, buying ammunition clips on eBay, ignoring the warning signs of a person gone mad ... there's a pretty long list of things to be concerned with after 33 people died in Virginia last week. I mean, what should be more safe on this planet than rolling out of bed on a bucolic campus in southwestern Virginia and walking into a German class? In all ways, we have to fight the madness. And that, by the way, does not include ignoring the madness. NBC and other news outlets had every right to show the insane ramblings of the lunatic who did this. It was too newsworthy to ignore.
