Virginia Tech Shooting

Postby Dulax31 on Mon Apr 16, 2007 10:18 am

(CNN) -- One person was killed and one person was wounded in a shooting on the Virginia Tech university campus in Blacksburg on Monday, The Associated Press reported, quoting a state government official.

Roanoke's WSLS reports that one person has been taken into custody, but it is unclear whether more suspects are being sought.

Student Matt Waldron said he did not hear the gunshots because he was listening to music, but he heard police sirens and saw officers hiding behind trees with their guns drawn.

"They told us to get out of there so we ran across the drill field as quick as we could," he said.

Waldron described the scene on campus as "mayhem."

"It was kind of scary," he said. "These two kids I guess had panicked and jumped out of the top story window and the one kid broke his ankle and the other girl was not in good shape just lying on the ground."

It's a little early isn't it? Final exams don't start for another month or so.

Gunman kills 21 on Virginia Tech campus

BLACKSBURG, Va. - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing 21 people and wounding another 21 before he was killed, police said.

"Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," said university president Charles Steger. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified."

The university reported shootings at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a co-ed residence hall that houses 895 people, and continuing about two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building.

I'm so happy that the VT lax team is fine.

And so upset by the loss of life.

IMO the only lives wasted were the gunmen's. The rest were just plain stolen. It's a tragedy.
