Wow, for the first time in recent history, ASU will be favored in the annual rivalry game between U of A and ASU. This game generally is not a very close one (with the exception of 2005 when ASU upset U of A 9-7). This year both teams will be fighting for a home playoff game (vs. Claremont) in the WCLL ¼ finals (the loser gets to travel to UCSB).

By the numbers:

Arizona-
Win #14 Lindenwood
Win #24 Illinois
Loss #3 Oregon
Loss #9 Northeastern

ASU-
Win #3 Oregon
Win #5 Michigan

All other wins and losses are the same (ranked opponents).

The rest was a little too much motivation for Zona.

I ain't so certain

I believe that this game is not that easy to pick apart.

Mind you I believe ASU is a winner here but I think that so many things are entering into it that it could be a real dog fight. U of A has alot to fight for, the couches know each other very well.
The players are all going to dig deep to make it a great game. There will also be quite a crowd influence.

I see ASU winning but two tired teams coming off the field.
No matter the gender, no matter the league, they play with heart they deserve respect

I agree with most of your comments, but this one. Defense is the one thing ASU is lacking. If a team can keep up with ASU's offense, they can win. But I do think ASU will crush them.

The best way to stop a run'n'gun offense is to possess the ball and limit their chances. That means controlled possessions that result in a good shot at the cage. It also means that you must also be able to stop the other team on defense and get a lead on them. If Arizona can do that and not get caught up in trying to outscore ASU, they can win this game.

It should be interesting to see who imposes their will on the other team.

How has ASU done against the zone? I know that can really slow down an high powered offense, and I have seen U of A run a pretty good zone in the past.

I think that the coaching match up is one of the most interesting parts of this game.

Both teams run very similar o and d. Maybe it is because both coaches played together at NYIT, and because the rest of the ASU staff are former Laxcats. I don't think this one will be any easy one to call.

Cal wins the big game 9-7 after being down 5-4 at half. I could be wrong, but I think that puts them into the playoffs no?
