Div. B Semi's

Postby Karl Lynch on Thu Apr 12, 2007 2:39 pm

Div. B will have a #2 v. #3 game at either SEU or SU depending on the outcome of the SEU v. SU game.

If Tulane beats Rice this weekend, who will take the 3rd seed for the LSA A South. The division records would look like this after a Tulane victory:

LSU 1-3 division record
Rice 1-2 division record (with A&M left to play)
Tulane 1-3 division record

Just curious, would this be one of those situations where it would come down to which team's player could throw a ball the furthest?

Or is there a different way.....overall record, margin of victory/defeat, etc.?

Tie-Breaker Formula

Postby Karl Lynch on Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:10 pm

In the event of a tie, the first tie-breaker shall be the results of head-to-head competition between the two teams during the current regular season. If this does not produce a solution (due to more than two teams being tied or an unavoidable game cancellation that prohibited the teams from playing their regular season game, the second game tiebreaker shall be goal-differential in required LSA play during the current regular season. Plus or minus goal differentials in excess of 5 shall not count towards the tie-breaker for more than 8 goals.

Div A South

Postby Karl Lynch on Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:31 pm

LSU 8 Tulane 7 +1
LSU 9 TSU 23 -8
LSU 4 Rice 12 -8
LSU 3 A&M 19 -8

LSU goal differential in required play -23. LSU mathematically eliminated from overtaking Rice.

Tulane 7 LSU 8 -1
Tulane 4 A&M 14 -8
Tulane 0 TSU 15 -8
Tulane v. Rice

Tulane goal differntial in required play -17 with one game to play.

Rice 3 TSU 12 -8
Rice 12 LSU 4 +8
Rice v. A&M
Rice v. Tulane

Rice goal differential in required play is 0 with two games to play. Worst Rice could do is -16.

If you guys want to look at some possible scenarios:

A) Rice v. A&M -8, then Rice goal differential is -8 with one game against Tulane.

If A and Tulane beats Rice by 8, Tulane goal differential is -9. Tulane goes.

If A and Tulane beats Rice by 1, Tulane goal differntial is -16, Rice goal differential is -9. Rice goes.

Everything else is in the middle.

I find it dissapointing that a team that has backed out of as many games as Rice has this season still has a chance of going to the LSA play-offs

I don't understand what is wrong with the simple "ball toss." It saves the extreme tired head you get when you read all the possible scenarios.

Do participating players in the final four need to buy a weekend pass to watch the other games?

From an outside perspective they look like pretty good matchups in the a-division, what does everyone else think.
