Texas HS Running Back
Actually I've seen quite a few white boys do stuff like that in the high school football down here. The high school I went to when I moved down here was a perfect example but Im sure that one doesn't count for some reason or another.

someone in the sec this past season had a pretty good white runningback, LSU?. think he was more of a 3rd down back, but i dont' think he was a fullback.

Tre Smith at Auburn got a couple snaps last season...he was more of a punt-returner though.

The name does not register my mind, but I believe this white running back was from Stanford several years ago. His last name may start with "V..." I doubt this guy may be in the same breath as Sam McGuffie.
By the way, Cy-Fair is one of the 10 high schools in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (that is why you saw CFISD in the end zones on the football field). It is my understanding from what my friend told me several weeks ago that CFISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas. Cy-Fair HS is located next to Hwy 290 in the northwestern part of Houston.

So, what you're implying is that white college head football coaches (98-99% of all college coaches!) don't want to recruit white running backs because they don't think they are good enough. There is a vast conspiracy by white coaches to keep the white man down and from becoming a star running back at the college level and the NFL, right? So ridiculous.

So, what your implying that college athletic directors don't want to hire black head coaches because they don't think they are good enough. "Touchdown" Tommy Vardell, and he is/was not in the same league skill-wise as Sam McGuffie. In fact, he became the Lions' fullback and was the lead blocker for Barry Sanders. Must have been that racist coach they had for the Lions in the 90s. How dare they not have Barry Sanders at fullback and Tommy Vardell at running back! I call for a complete investigation!

Isn't everyone saying there's a conspiracy that there are so many white coaches? 98-99% of coaches are white, 98-99% of college tailbacks aren't white.
I may be crazy, but if someone were to be picking teams for backyard football...who would be first chosen based on looks alone...

Not really ridiculous actually, but I figure you will disagree with me on anything regarding race or politics, just for kicks. It would have been interesting to see Tyrone Willingham get another job had he embellished his resume like George O'Leary. I remind you that Eddie Robinson was never even approached for a D1A interview.

Well, now I know why you are not a college recruiter. If I compared the tapes of these two chaps, I would pick the one who played better. You see, that's what college recruiters do. They look at tapes. They go to the games and write down notes. Just thought I'd share that for your own edification.

Ahh....before, my concerns about college recruiting and such were a blur of confusion...but now everything is so clear. I thought recruiters just drew names out of a the world's largest hat and that's how it went.
So then if that's what college recruiters do for players...maybe analyzation of that person, is what the colleges do when they hire coaches.

Sir, I suggest you reread your first post:
I'd be willing to bet that more time than not...the second that recruiters see him without his pads on (white), he will be overlooked or passed over.
Now, given the fact that we know that top colleges are pursuing him, your initial post would seem a bit misguided, no? Unless they are sending blind recruiters to scout him and are relying on the "oohs" and "ahhs" of the crowd, there is a good probability that they know he is white and yet, they are undeterred, because they feel he will be a good player.

Same as they do with coaches, no?
I wish that were the case. There were 7 black NFL coaches last year. 3 took their teams to the playoffs. Was this a coincidence? Did NFL general managers have to hire these guys? No, they didn't. But they did, and their franchises are better off because of it.
In the NCAA, there are so many more factors as to why black coaches are not being hired.
I responded to you last week concerning this very topic after Eddie Robinson passed away.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't know how you came to this conclusion. Universities each have unique ways of finding new football coaches, with the University president and others usually putting together a search committee. How many University presidents are black? Extending that logic to the football field, how many assistants are black? Few and far between in both cases. For some reason, the NFL and NCAA have performed miserably when it comes to hiring minority candidates. Eddie Robinson was never, NEVER, approached for an interview for a D 1-A position. Tyrone Willingham only got hired at Notre Dame after O'Leary was found to have doctored his resume. The fact remains, NCAA football is a huge revenue source for major Universities. Unfortunately, since there are so many white University presidents, they have to appease certain white donors who want a familiar face leading their football team, thus it does not appear that this situation will correct itself in the near future. People in positions of power at they University level need to be bold, go against conventional wisdom and start hiring qualified minority football coaches. Plain and simple.
Now, why is this so hard to grasp? Please, if you need me to explain further I gladly will.
