Blake @ Eden Prarie Saturday @ 7 pm. Should be intersting.

Mahtomedi/Moundsview game was cancelled.
For Mahtomedi- Now that I dont coach there, I can talk about them. Watch out for Adam Moen (M), Andy Berrigan (G) and a few VERY Athletic sophmore poles, all of whom started as frosh last year on the varsity.

My preseason Poll- a few days late.

Blake- No comment
BSM- Senior stacked at either end, dont know whats in the middle of the feild. 3 Athletic, giants @ D and an attack that could be very dangerous.
EP- Some solid seniors, and allegedly some young guns coming up?
Tonka- very young (20 sophs on varsity?) but 3rd year in the Wells system could spell trouble.
AV- They can always score...
Breck- Athletic and returning majority of the squad
Edina- Lost alot but seems like their youth program has them reloading every year. I wouldnt count them out
Wayzata- Questions between the pipes? Coaching change? Could be here or outside the top 10 in my opinion
Jefferson- They always seem to be up there, hanging around. Should be interesting to see what they put out this year. They did graduate some key guys.
Mahtomedi- New east coast Offensive coach, returning solid defense. Questions @ attack. Could have best goalie on the eastside.

Outside-
Eagan- always solid, but the circle offense aint gonna take you all the way.
Osseo- Graduated probably 75% of their points, if not more. Can they reload.
Totino- Some young guns @ attack. Graduated entire starting D. They will always be FAST.
Eastview- I thought they came out of nowhere lastyear, I amvery interested to see what they do.

went to the BSM v. Roseville game last night (a little early season scouting never hurt) ....

Here's my take as the notes made by other coaches vs. what I saw....

BSM is good, domintated the play -and the score could have been worse - their attack is scary - and for all of us only having short weeks to practice, I was quite surprised with the flow of their offense...they dont drop the ball, so lazy passes yes, but you noticed the difference of starters vs. subs...

Goalie is solid, D is very solid

Midfield - every one appears to be at least 6ft tall, fast, and athletic, can dodge and can shoot...problems at the face off X though...

I looked at the roster, all seniors and juniors at the midfield...looks as if they only graduated one middy from last year from what I could tell when we played them last year...

My ten

1. blake
2. ep
3. bsm
4. edina
5. wayzata
6. tonka
7. jefferson
8. breck
9. Apple valley
10. eastview

close...

I am not conviced EP is a top 3 team. Isn't this is the same team that went 4-10 last year?

Fleck -

They had a TON of injuries to key players last year. They had a quality JV program to rebuild and add depth for this year. We'll see, but they do have two of the top players in the state, that takes you far right now...

I think the talent seems spread, you say 2 of the best, but you need depth this year, which is sounds like you have at BSM this year? Look at Osseo, Kyrillis, Flemming, 2 of the best in the state at their position, but the question is can the role players fill in? All those can be answered soon, with every team. It seems this year, 2-3 players CANNOT win a title. Look at past champions, its a trend. EP will be good, not great. Top 5 team because they are EP but I don't think they are better then either of the clear cut top 2...

I disagree here, only slightly, yes it does take a team, but if you have a consistant go to offensive player, that has proven to be very good...that takes you far as my post mentioned - not all the way, but far (as in right now being ranked in the top 10 is what I meant to say)....
You need the quality and depth around those players, to make it a team that can acutally win...

What position do these guys from Osseo play, no offense, I havent heard of them before....I tend not to listen to HS guys pumping their buddies up to be "cough" "cough" All Americans (not you Johnny others....)

Personally from what I have seen from the split this year, that if you have a couple of dominant players, you are in the top 10 - which means you might have the ability to go far (again not all the way) - you obviously have to have guys with a pulse as role players with you to be in the top 10....

Bryan Kyrillis - LSM AA last year as a junior, on elite team
Kenny Flemming - G on the Elite team

Is whom I was talking about Horn. Also, I knew you meant top 10, I was simply saying in general when I said "you", not "Rob Horn", Just so you know. We both know it takes a full team to go "all the way" and it sounds like BSM might be it...

EP no question in Top 3

Postby schelitzche on Thu Apr 12, 2007 8:14 am

Guys, I spent a little time with EP the last two years and I can tell you they have what it takes to win and win a lot this year.

Reasoning:
1) Had 6 players on the MN Elite team last summer. Baxter (A/M), Jones (A), Hewitt (M), Schleider (M), Donna (D), Richards (D) - All six of these players are legit. Mike Richards is one that will come on very strong this year as close D, watch for him. Hewitt is about 6'3" - 225 and is one of the few bodies I have seen in MN that has the size and speed to play DI. Think Uzlik on steroids! Jones grew about 5 inches and is much more confident now (and a junior), Schleider is a soph and might do some nice things this year, and Donna and Baxter are obviously solid. Also watch out for Salvog, great face-off middie who has ridiculous speed.

The main reason I see EP doing VERY well is the fact that they have another 15 players that no one knows about but who A) dont drop the ball B) are very athletic C) know the game very well and D) have a year of varsity under their belt!

I should also give an excuse for the 4-10 record last year.
1) We lost 15 seniors most notably Gnazzo (AF), Nord (UMD), Kruse (UMD), D. Clark (STT), Crosby (STT), and Rob Shreffer among others. Those are hard shoes to fill. Add to that the fact that will all those graduating, most of the guys last year were playing their first varsity games.

Injuries: Baxter was out for 4 games with shoulder, Donna had bad shin splints all year, Shrank had concussions, Freeland had knee issues...the list goes on.

Also, our schedule included Blake (1), Osseo (2), TG (3), Benilde (4), Holy Angels, and Jefferson - all very good teams last year.

Enough about that. All I am saying is that if they stay healthy, with a year under their belts and the leaders wanting to do everything to win State, they will be a solid team.
