If the Tourney was being held today....

Here is the bracket if the tourney was being held based off the the 3/28/07 poll (assuming highest ranked team gets AQ):

11 Arizona State

7 Sonoma State (WCLL AQ)
10 Arizona

2 Brigham Young
15 Lindenwood (GRLC AQ)

Ranked teams out: Cal Poly (16)

I know it has been said this year already, but even those first rounds spell craziness. Could be a year of a lot of lower seeds advancing depending on who is hot come tournament time

The level of even competition this year is like I have never seen! For example, if A&M goes in as #16, I feel sorry for the #1, as that will not be an easy first round game based on the impressive wins and tough ball games they have given ASU and Zona.

Agreed. Also this is the first year that, in my opinion, we can say that there are 9 maybe 10 teams that have a legitimate shot at winning it all. Of the current top 10 only Northeastern and FSU have not shown they can hang with the top 5. However ASU and UCSB at 11 and 12 have shown they can hang with the top 5. Even Utah at 13 has been very impressive against the top teams.

Just throwing it out there for fun consideration, but I notice using the seedings above the only conference without an AQ manages to have 4 of it's 5 teams in the playoffs.

With the 4/11 poll it looks like only 3 of 5 would be in the playoffs, but again the RMLC has no AQ.

Looking again at the seedings above it is interesting to see that left only 4 teams from the rest of the country with a shot to get in. Which means a team that finished second in it's conference (if it all ended 3/28) lost out to a team that finished 4 in conference play.

If this post was updated for the 4/11 poll it changes a bit, but you still would see a second place finisher losing out to a 3rd place finisher.

I think these are very interesting things, and indicate the trouble poll driven systems can sometimes find themselves in. Fun eh?

Detlaxhead- UCSB didn't make the final four of the WCLL playoffs last year, but finished in the final four of the national tournament. The other three teams in the final four of the national tournament were from the RMLC.

I don't see the problems with our poll driven system. Regardless of whether a team finishes second, third, fourth (or in Santa Barbara's case last year even higher) in conference playoffs, the merits of a complete season are taken into account to ensure the best teams are in the national tournament.

Couldn't agree more, should of we taken the 2nd place team from the LSA conference last year over the 3rd Place team from RMLC, NO! BYU was that thrid place team and finished in the top 4, actually last year the RMLC top 3 were arguably better than any other teams in the nation.
