PNCLL Week #7 (3/20- 3/26) -- Predict, Scores, Discuss

Points Proved

Postby Shawn Carman on Wed Mar 21, 2007 6:49 pm

It looks like just about everybody else would agree that you take goals how you can get them when it comes down to it. If Oregon can score from the crease, just like Kyle said it is because they are doing things right. Oregon waits for the D to turn their head to look for the ball then make their move to the goal or use picks to get open. Breaking apart a defense is part of what the offense is suppose to do.

Oregon is doing everything right in terms of trying to score goals. I got the opportunity to play against them this past weekend in Bend and to tell you the truth that the majority of their goals were crease feeds and shots, which from a goalie I will tell you are more difficult to save rather than getting a shot from a little farther out with a few more fractions of a second to try and pick up the ball during a shot.

In the fourth quarter of our game they were taking shots from 15yds or so, proving that they can and are willing to take the outside shots when they have to.

Good Luck Ducks on that #1 reign!

I would say that if you watch the videos of their games, it's not that they are simply feeding the crease- it's that they are fast and close on the perimeter and are enough of a threat from the outside that they are drawing slides.

Their passing is quick and their players are seeing the slides and hitting the open man- it's not an issue of them playing a simplified offense, it's just a solid TEAM offense that is giving them these open looks. In settled offense, they are keeping the defense unsettled and taking advantage of late slides or non-existent second slides. Yes they're dumping to the crease, but only because they are creating opportunities, not merely taking them.

I would have to agree. I guess Waterboy does know what he's talkin about...

Congrats to WOU on their first top #25 ranking!!! That's two PNCLL teams in their 3rd season making waves on the national scene. Also, it may be the only time that I'm pulling for you guys, but I truly wish you the best of conditions down in Cali so you can represent well.

I'm very interested to see how OSU does against Davis. The way that they are playing it was good that we played them early in the season. They move the ball well, take what you give them, and have more coaches then we have players. Best of luck to OSU.

Oregon will romp

Postby bhsvideodad on Fri Mar 23, 2007 11:04 pm

I think the OSU game was unusual in how the points were scored. I have seen 5 games and put up highlights to three. In the OSU game, Coffman had 9 goals and most were from not that far out. I don't know what OSU defensive scheme was, but it wasn't effective against Coffman.

Oregon's attack is very strong this year and you can see it in the stats. Their defense looks good to me as well. They also have a deep team.

Hope you guys are enjoying the Youtube highlights.

I think it's great what you are doing. I actually watched the Oregon/Oregon State game and think that both sides moved the ball well. There's a reason we call this the fastest game on two feet. Honestly, the bulk of the goals from both teams came from sound/fundamental movement. That shouldn't take anything away from either teams defense. Keep the highlights coming, it's nice to see great lacrosse in the PNW!

I really enjoy the videos that you are putting up online. One thing that I really appreciate is that you include the good plays pulled off by both teams. This objectiveness allows all of us watching to see not just Oregon but the other teams and players in the PNCLL. Keep it up!

Congrats to PLU on a tight victory in the rival game between PLU and UPS. PLU won 10-8. . .details to follow. I know Reid Petit of UPS had a hand in all 8 UPS points with 5 goals and 3 assists. Nick Tkachuk had 3 or 4 goals early to give PLU the early lead which they never relinquished.

Oregon vs Colorado 3-26 What field??

Postby bhsvideodad on Sun Mar 25, 2007 6:28 pm

The game between Oregon and Colorado is scheduled for 1 pm in Tempe Monday afternoon. Is this going to be played at the ASU band field where Oregon plays ASU on Tuesday?

We are going to Tempe in the morning and it would be great to know where they are playing.
