Couldn't agree more. They played very well on their trip but bottom line is that they went 0-3! Are they still a top 10 team? to me, absolutely. Right around there (9-10).

1. UCSB and Utah are ahead of AZ?
2. Utah ahead of ASU (2-3 with UMD win worth that much?)
3. I have to agree with CatLax, what has Sonoma done to deserve such a high ranking? They haven't even beaten a ranked opponent yet.
4. How is Colorado still so high (losing to now #17, squeaking by (OT) to #24, and 13-9 over #21)?

Sounds good to me. All I'm trying to say is that UMD shouldn't get any credit for losing.

agreed, but what would you say to a team that lost to Oregon by 1 vs. a team that lost by 10?.....a hypothetical team - and discussion topic...

would you assume one is better than the other?

I could let that slide if it was only one game, but I still can't get over the fact that they lost three games in a row and people are still arguing that they should be #5 or #6. I don't think they deserved that spot in the first poll, so I think they should drop. I didn't think a wins over Cal Poly and Lindenwood and a loss to CSU warranted a #5 ranking. I could handle 6-10, hopefully towards the back end of that, but I'm going to stop with my complaining until after the weekend. Then I'll start up again.

It's really easy to argue either side of this. One one hand, UMD did lose three games in a row. On the other hand, they lost by 1 to the #2 team in the country, and to the #5 team in the country. For me it's going to come down to who I think is the better team - it's getting too difficult to rank the teams based solely on the results of specific games.

Based on what I've seen and heard from other coaches, I still think UMD is one of the top 5-7 teams in the country (even though they happened to lose three games in a row) and I will vote accordingly, barring a disaster this week.

RB, you said they didn't deserve a spot that high in the first place, and I can respect that. It's a perfectly valid opinion, and their results don't show otherwise. I guess it just comes down to what people think they're capable of. Some people think they're capable of being a top 3-5 team (myself included) and some think they're capable of being a top 8-12 team. Either way I don't think you will find anyone who doesn't think they are a serious threat.

Well spoken RB, and I think you made your point now that I was having trouble decifering from your previous posts....

I wasnt speaking about them (UMD) particularily, just a "mythical" team question.... and see how everyone would percieve that "mythical" team...if they (UMD) would have handled business against Utah, this discussion would be closed...

Not to sure about Noma right now....CATLAX...you always spin my head and make me consider the other side....

I think I like Jerz's questions about CU...but they do keep on winning so you cant punish them for that...

What is the deal with Utah? They look like a legitimate top 10 team one day and the next day beat unranked Illinois by only 1 goal. All I know is that with a 3-3 record and 0 constancy on what team is going to show up on a given night they shouldn't even be sniffing the top ten. #15 seems a bit more accurate. Top 10 teams consistently win games, they don't get to decide when it is a good time to play hard.

If you want to talk about a team that has been winning then how bout them Sun Devils.

Well it'll be known how ASU is after playing Colorado, Oregon and Michigan (with Cal in there) in a 6 day span.

Ya but Utah still won right? Even though it was a close game in my opinon a win is a win and you can't take that away from a team, like in Utah's case....[/quote]

You have a good point. Utah only beat unranked Illinois by 1 OT at home. I can see why you would want to lobby against Utah considering that you both will be fighting for an at-large bid. Let’s compare some scores.

ASU beat Utah at ASU by one – Utah beat Illinois by one at Utah
BYU beat ASU by 15 at ASU – BYU beat Illinois by 9 at BYU

Hold up…maybe Illinois should be ranked. Not top ten but they should be ranked. Each of Illinois\' losses have been on the road to ranked teams above them. Is it possible that Illinois is a good team getting better rather than Utah being inconstant?

Nice job Utah! Big win over a tough Duluth team and an underrated Illinois team.

The recent parody in the MCLA is a great thing for the league, but could also make your head spin if your a poll voter.

Sorry for the earlier joke. I didn't mean to make a parity of your post.

Personal bias in mind, I couldn't agree more with points 1 and 2...No reason for Utah to be ahead of Arizona or (and it pains me to say this) ASU. The same is true for UCSB, in fact. Both AZ teams beat Utah, so Utah shouldn't be ranked higher, and UCSB lost to Utah, so it's a tough case for them to be ranked higher.

But...as mentioned by somebody eariler in the thread, if you want to move up in the polls, WIN. This weekend will show a lot, especially with the #7 and #1 ranked teams playing the AZ teams and each other. Time to show up on the field and less in the forums.

just so every one knows. not trying to give excuses. illinois went up like 7 to 2 (or somethin like that) in the first quarter (due to utah's lack of intensity and small bench (game was at 1 pm, class) and illinois' intensity, stonewall goalie, and thier face off guy) they then came back and showed tenacity against a surprising illinois team. a wins a win. #10 ucsb and #5 umd are very nice wins. losing to #13 asu #11 arizona and #4 csu aren't unexpected. in my mind utah deserves a one or two spot jump. when poly moves down asu and utah move up. that's easy. then there's ucsb. with the poor showing in utah and a squeker against cal their big win is poly who haven't proven themselves. that's another jump. for utah az and asu. then they beat utah so give em another place which leaves utah at 12 or 11. there is quite a large point desparity in those ranks though, so, who knows. have fun pollsters.
