You're forgetting that last poll came out after conference playoffs.
Sonoma got that ranking because they beat two ranked teams in the WCLL playoffs. UCSD in overtime and Arizona to win the WCLL championship.
BYU dropped because they lost in the RMLC semi's.

CU played no games this week and lost to #17, how could you put them up there? Like I said excuses or no there still isn't a list of more than 2 teams that would be in front of Duluth anyways. I think you guys also underestimate the climate and elevation changes. Much more difficult playing in heat when your body is acclimated to mid 20's vs. mid 40's.
If you want to use climate to make excuses for UMD's losses, go ahead and do that. But then you have to count the fact that UCSB played Utah in the snow at high altitudes and played BYU in similar conditions. The team has never played in weather like that. The majority of the team is from California, and last I checked, it rarely snows there and the campus will probably be underwater within the next century. UCSB already paid for those two losses in the polls. So UMD is going to have to face their losses too. UMD better get used to the heat because temperatures reached around 100 degrees in Dallas last year, and there are no excuses for a one goal loss there.

I agree with RB here, the whole climate change excuse is bull...Both Northeastern and BC went from 20-30 degrees on the east coast to 70-80s in the west and played fine. If the heat was really hurting UMD they should have rotated more guys in there. If they don't have the depth for that, then that's a weakness that they have and completely justifies a drop in the polls.

Someone want to explain this one to me. What is it about what Colorado and Sonoma has done this season that justifies moving them ahead of UMD? I have no issue with Northeastern. At least they played some games and won them.

I think you are wording this wrong. I don't see teams moving ahead of UMD. I see UMD falling back. You can't have a losing record and be in the top 5-7 teams. Sonoma is close to .500 at 4-3, so I don't see them moving much, but CU is 4-1, FSU is 12-3, Northeastern 5-0, UCSB 9-2, Cal Poly 8-3, ASU 5-1... Wins count for you and losses count against you.

i still say that 3 losses by 3 goals total all to ranked teams in one weekend, two of which are ranked ahead of you cannot hurt you that much in the rankings....no one else has done anything to warrant moving ahead of them in the polls.
remember, they are supposed to lose to BYU and CSU, considering they are ranked ahead of them, and to lose by only 1 is a pretty solid feat. the Utah game could have been a fluke, or fatigue from playing 3 games in 1 weekend....UMD deserves that 5 or very least 6 spot

There is a whole week of games before the next poll comes out. So if any teams want to either move up in the polls or stay where they are then they better get it done on the field this weekend instead of arguing about it on the message board.

As much as I hate to say it (being that UMD is Minnesota's rival school) Scooter's post here makes the most sense in my book. UMD was supposed to lose to BYU and CSU. Granted that losing to Utah will likely drop them, but to 9th? I dont see it. Perhaps 6th or 7th. When you play better teams, youre going to have more losses. And when you schedule as aggressively as UMD did for this trip, a loss or two is likely to happen. So in summary, 6th or 7th could be reasonable resting spots for UMD in the next poll, depending on how some teams perform in the coming days.

what is everyones obsession with UMD and the rankings? there are like 4 more rankings that come out this year. who cares! its just about half way through the season, you people are a joke with all this bickering going on. If UMD wants to stay or move up....WIN. if teams below them want to move up...WIN. All you people who care and worry so much about the ranking are probably the same kids who get mad after a win because you only had 1 goal and not 2. if you are good enough rankings dont matter, especially in MARCH

This is a good statement and I'll leave the arguement here. I argue because UMD played all of their "hard games" early in the season. They play no more teams that even are in the "also receiving votes" category except the UofM which is/will be a rescheduled game. Hard to claw back up in the polls not playing ranked teams. Let's hope they beat everyone convincingly.
I think Utah is also better than everyone thinks and is flying under the radar a little bit.

Sure but I'd rather play a 9-16 team than a 1-5 team first round.

Actually, we're the "kids" who vote in the poll, and we like to bounce ideas off one another.
Are you just going to show up in every thread to tell us to stop talking about the polls? This is the Polls forum. This is where polls are discussed.

Can anyone compare UMD and Sonoma State technical and athletic abilities? If anyone has seen both these teams play, who would you say is better? and why? (please arguments that don't include who beat who)

I never want to hear that UMD should be ranked below FSU. I dont care that there (FSU) 12-3 and UMD is 2-3. FSU has played no one, and will play no one. There meeting last year with UMD was a disaster, I believe it was 16-4 in favor of UMD. Yes UMD dropped three very close games, but saying that teams like FSU should go to a 4 or 5 is not ok.

Wow. Anger.
FSU lost to a couple of D-2 teams and Michigan. UM-D lost to CSU, BYU and Utah. Respectable on both ends.
Regardless of "last year"...but until the end of the season's playoffs who does UM-D play? FSU still has Southern New Hampshire (DII) and Florida (#16) left before the conference tourny...not to mention Bentley (DII) last week.
