For the record, the defensive first team for the B division was the same for the defensive poles the last two years - Jeff "Homer" Roark of PLU, Jim Baumstark of WWU, and Ryan Frey of Montana (who subsequently made 1st team all-american). . .the goalie position has not been the same, with Brett Bartell winning 1st team honors as a senior in 2005 and Noah Symington winning it as a freshman last year (with several other extremely talented goalies on the 2nd and 3rd teams). Also, Matt Weurfful of PLU was the long-stick midfielder for the 1st team, and he is back in 2007 for his senior season. For the record Matt was an all-american last year as well.
Homer, Jim Baumstark, Matt Weurfful and Noah are all back. Ryan Frey graduated - we won't have a D-pole 3-peat in 2007.

If Snell doesnt get first team this year it's a crime. I dont care who has come in this year as a freshman or transfer, he's the best one on one defender i have faced since entering the b leagues in 05. One guy who i think might enter into all league conversations this year is #33 on WOU Justin Brown. I hate tootin my own teams horn but the kid has taken on the other teams best attackman all year and has done a very good job against each of them. Also CWU's pole Stenson did a very good job in our game against them. But once again, from another teams perspective, Snell guarded me all game and i did not beat him one on one, all my points came on man up. I'd say he should watch his penalties, but that would take away from his aggressive nature. THis is the year he gets first team, if i had a vote he would definitely get it.

I am also tooting my own horn but Justin Brown is without a doubt one of the best defenders in the league. But with our run and gun defense it will be hard for him to gain any notice, he doesnt go coast to coast, he doesnt through amazing fakes or checks, but he plays amazing defense. I know him and I joke about it but the truth is he hasnt had his attackman score on him sense the CWU game. He played Jamison in the second half of the SOU game and held him to no goals. He was a key reason that WOU collected a shutout over Linfield, and did not play the second half against Willamette where they didnt score until the 4th quarter. If him and Snell dont collect 1st team this year the Oregon bias will be worse than ever.

I still find it hard to believe there were players on last years first team you could easily replace with Oregon players... YOU!! do the voting... You vote these players into All-Conference status... The BIAS is either non-existent, or it comes from the evil Washington teams that outnumber the Oregon teams 5 to 4 (as of this week because Linfield dropped)... What you're saying we've done in the past is vote for those terrible Montana players to prevent Oregon from getting 1st team players... We had 8 All-American players last year... 8, I'm assuming they'd be on the PNCLL 1st team...
My actual opinion is a little simpler. The people that claim there is a bias, are feeling guilty... It's a simple theory, but it goes like this. Thieves think everyone else is a thief, & Liars think everyone else is a liar. If you think their's a bias, what does that mean? It looks as though you're trying pretty hard to discredit the players that have made it in the past & will make it in the future (unless it's your specific player). I personally thought Baumstark was the worst of the 3 poles on 1st team last year. I talked to him about this in Victoria, but it was how his team used him. I never got to see how amazing off ball he was, how when he was the 2nd, 3rd, or even the 4th slide his timing was amazing & he was there early at worst. WWU simply used him as the hot defender 90% of the time last season (and over the years we've played them). Homer from PLU is also an excellent defender, as is/was Ryan Frey from Montana... These were the guys you voted on in 2006, not the team the Oregon Bias determined.
We're not even finished with the season & we're being accused Bias... I'm sure both Montana & Western will have 1st team players (they are in the top 10 nationally, with several returning), probably PLU as 2 of their players made it last year & are pretty specialized in their position(also currently ranked 16), the Raiders are probably under-ranked at 20 (& Snell was close to first team last season), which means that WOU is also probably under-ranked. Cody Hart has helped his team turn the corner... It makes sense that the best teams in the PNCLL will have the most 1st teamers, right?. Yes I believe I have a few players that could be on the first team, but unless we upset a few teams & squeak into the Final Four and win... We've got little to no chance of getting those players that recognition. If my guys are really good enough to be there, they'll put up points & shut down players from the best teams in the conference. With that said, there aren't many spots for these other players to join the 1st team. I'd take Will Friehoffer as an example in Montana... He was their 3rd attackmen... Well, now he's an LSM... He could start at attack for any PNCLL B team & what does that say about the other 3 attackmen they have? Yes they've only played 2 games, & yes they've only practiced for about 2 weeks now, but how good will you have to be at attack to start at Montana? Then why should we not vote for the Montana attack as 1st team?
You get the recognition from your peers for a job well done on the field. For getting your team further into the playoffs & for being the best individual/team player at your position, in the conference. If you haven't seen all of these players play, it's tough to make the decision or cast a vote for who should be on the 1st team. Forget the fact that we're just past the midpoint of the season with a lot more games to play. The notion of a bias is insulting at best, & if you really want to make a difference, help out. The Board has plenty of work to do, I can put you to work at the Final Four, & you can be a part of the solution.

I would like to reply to your post Kyle by noting that i mentioned a Washington player and meant no disrespect to the Players who got first team last year. All i said was that Snell should get first team this year, with the way he is playing, and that Mr. Brown should enter into thoughts when entertaining who should get all Conference along with Stenson from CWU. If thats first team or honorable mention i could care less. I am not in agreement with the whole oregon bias thing. Players who deserve it get it, thats all there is to it. As for my fellow teammate on this forum, well for you stephen i say that when we get somewhere, like the playoffs, or the final four, then we can start talking about our players getting first team. We have a terrible job in voting for who gets these honors and i hope it does not appear as if Oregon teams will only vote for Oregon players. I personally do not vote, but if i did it would be after serious consideration for who i have played against and the posts i have read about players. I am sorry for the misunderstanding, i did not mean to sound like i feel disrespected. The leaders of this league do the best they can, which is very good in my opinion.

I think it's clear there's bias because there's no one from Willamette on the first team
bias bias bias poo bias
The only bias there should be is bias towards the better players and from what I've seen that's been the case. All-league defense is a very hard and very subjective category, there's bound to be debate and confusion over who the best players are.
And as far as this anti-Oregon bias, it exists, as well as aliens, and there is a clear bias against my NCAA bracket cause all my teams are losing! arrrgghhhh!

Since this forum is completely off topic I will continue it.... all of the above is why I stayed away from posting topics the last two years. There is so much arguing, accusations, and bickering that all it does is take away from the games being played (just look at the last two weeks, stats, all-league selections, etc, not much about the games). That said, here are some positive thoughts...
Hats off to Will Patton of Willamette for all of his efforts!! Even though they could only bring 11 players to Ashland it was obvious that they are improving rapidly.
Hats off to Albertson and WOU for building legit programs in 3 short years.
Hats off to Kevin in Montana...every team would be extremely lucky to have a student / athlete as dedicated as you!
Hats off to Mr. Peter Lewicki for stepping up to coach Whitman while attending Law School?!!!
Finally, a big Hats off to Tim Hart!!! Linfield was the first team we ever played and you kicked our butt! Please don't give up on a college team.
Thanks to all of you for helping to spread the greatest game in the Northwest!!

Mark, being off-topic is what we do best on the forum. . .
In all seriousness, the rise of the SOU program all the way down in Ashland is amazing. Your program is the fastest rising program in the PNCLL B division, if not the entire MCLA. Keep up the great work down there and I look forward to seeing you guys play up here at the Final Four in Tacoma. . .keep up the great work.
