How do you like this for a NCAA basketball uniform?

March 5, 2007—Looks like those baggy shorts so popular among college hoops teams may finally be on their way out. Taking their place? Really, really baggy shorts. Starting tomorrow night, four top schools—Arizona, Florida, Ohio State, and Syracuse—will don Nike's System of Dress, a radical new look that brings Raf Simons–style proportion-play to the hard court. Complementing the aforementioned shorts are formfitting jerseys ten inches smaller in the torso, resulting in a second-skin look that's more Bode Miller than Ben Wallace.

Given how cut most big-time basketball players are, I would think they'll love the shirts. The pants are just getting a little toooo long for my style.

I wouldn't say that. If anything, the NBA is working hard removing that image. Strict dress codes, cut downs on unecessary leg and arm sleeves, players aren't being allowed to dress the way they used to anymore. Stern is all about going global, and that "hood" image probably isn't going to sell very well overseas.

I'm surprised these are in college basketball. They are hideous. Looks more like a warm-up uniform. Hope this is a one-time deal...

You can dress them anyway you like. It is still "the hood" look and the game is getting closer to street ball everyday. It's about promoting the stars, no matter the attitude and personality. Between the uniforms, the tattoos, the hair, and the style of play, it is no longer a team sport when trying to put butts in the seats. It is focused on the stars

I am interested to know what sport doesn't use its stars to "put butts in the seats." No offence but using "the hood" as a descriptor is a little... just not... fair. A couple of friends of mine wear XXL shorts that in your definition would make them "hood" looking, and they are anything but.

I will admit the uniforms are just a little big in the shorts for my style though.

Every league should be focused on its stars...that's how the game grows. The best thing for a sport is to take its star athletes and turn them into household names, it creates excitement about teams and players and brings fans in to watch these guys in person. They generally market good, reputable people though. The NBA has a few I would question (Iverson, Artest), but the majority of sports is careful about who they promote. Look at the Powells and lacrosse, Crosby and the NHL, Woods and golf. I understand what your saying though.

I will agree 100% though that NBA basketball is all about stars, in respect to gameplay. It's slowly becoming less and less of a team sport, that is evident.

But I digress...the uniforms wouldn't be so bad if the shorts weren't practically capris. Maybe a little warm with those sleeves too.
