SELC Week 5: 2/28 - 3/6 (Discuss Games/Report Scores)

Postby relaxer on Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:51 am

Was at both FSu games. I agree on St. Andrews charging to park...the game the day before at Pope John Paul, which is also a private high school was free, and also well attended. The city promoted the game to get young players out to watch at a higher level and then to have the school charge was uncalled for.

The VT game was not as close as I expected. Was impressed with FSU defense. #9 Cecil has incredible speed and moves. You're not going to score if he was on you. Also #23 was fun to watch. I agree that FSU misseds shots that seem pretty easy, but lets not take away from the VT goalie he did a great job. The FSU goalie also had some inredible saves. There seem to be a lot of evenly matched teams this year. FSU will have to play there best game every time to keep their SELC title.

It may be premature to say...

Florida or UGA are my picks to win SELC this year.

after GT of course... 8)

That was sneaky.

Although I haven't seen these teams play yet, I think I can say that I'm pretty sure there are some teams in the SELC that are big question marks- not if they're good, but how good they might be. Suffice it to say, I think the tournament at the end of the season in the SELC could be just about anyone's to win- except for University of Texas, since they're not in that league and that would just be crazy.

If FSU were able to get out of the habit of shooting at the Goalies' chest, and not running to pass and catch the ball, their offense would explode.

It's obvious, looking at the scores that the defense is playing better this year. Ball control seems better too...domination in both faceoffs and groundballs (only Mich got more GB's than FSU in their game).

It's not looking like there's going to be the number of All America for FSU this year...their silver lining is that without players dominating as they had last year, everyone is forced to work together more for the end result. The close games are a testament to an ability to come together very well at times. Consistency in this area is what will bring postseason success.

I can't wait for the game in Gainesville, then the SELC Tourney. FSU, UF, and UGA all seem to be neck and neck with Auburn playing the darkhorse. Don't count GT out either. Should be a great weekend.

After watching that uga v uf game i def think one of those two will be in the finals. Only seeing from the 2nd quarter on, georgia exploded and was feeding off the crowd def. Both team have tremendous talent, only thing that wasn't working out were the fights for groundballs. Of course I'm sure most of the time they were going for the big hits (georgia completely laid out a florida player late in the 4th, drew a penalty from some gator who tried to retaliate) I can't remember if uga scored off the opportunity, but they sure did hit post 3 or 4 times. Both goalies were amazing. When it comes down to it, whichever defense can hold its ground will do well. GT's was pretty decent, they have good ball control on offense which helps them out a lot. Haven't seen Auburn play, but from the looks of some scores, they are either on or off.

Georgia over Stonehill a lot to a little 15-2 maybe. Georgia was pretty slow to get started, then picked it up at the end. Georgia's defense stalled a lot of the game, goalie was amazing as usual. Stonehill short on numbers and couldn't pass/catch well.

Final from Elon...

Wake- 8
Elon- 5

Wake traveled with just 14 players (mid-terms), and was able to hold Elon scoreless for the final 25 minutes and ended the game on a 7-0 run.
