Citadel has forfieted against USC and the game won't be played. This is the second game that USC has had canceled on us this semester, after the scheduling deadline.

Based on past experiences, I don't think USC is in any shape to throw rocks at another glass house.

That being said, these issues are best left for offline discussion with the SELC Exec. Board.

MICHIGAN won 14-7

Not a bad game. Michigan looks sharp. First team all season to get more groundballs than the 'Noles. Lots of hustle at every position, solid goaltending...made good position saves even after the Seminoles started bouncing their shots. Eventually, Michigan's stronger fundamentals did the trick.

FSU could have definitely played better, but just needs to tighten up the shot group a bit. There were moments that they were brilliant...moving the ball well, anticipating well, clearing patiently, always hustling. Lots to work on, but also a game to build from. Good luck next week in Boca!

PS. I officially hate the new stick check rules. Too many interuptions. I know you were all wondering where I was on that one.

I didn't pass any judgements, I just said what other teams have said in these threads. For other games, you've asked why. In this case, we're not supposed to say anything?

I also wasn't coach or a player when those forfiets happened. Furthermore, if you don't like the way I posted this notification, I'd appreciate a private message rather than airing whatever ill feelings you have about my team (stemming from at least two years ago) rather than calling us (and me) out publicly for something that last happenened when the vast majority (42 out of 50) weren't even here.

Just to clarify, a team that cancels a game, for any reason, does not forfeit. Neither team should count the game as a win or a loss. It's recorded as a "no contest."

Your conference may have administrative penalties for a team that cancels a game, but statistically and for the record it's a no contest.

The Citadel's sports club administration notified us that they had forfeited and used that exact word.

Gotcha. Still can't be a forfeit though.

From the rule: "An institution shall not, for statistical purposes, declare a forfeit for nonfulfillment of a contract. Such instances shall be considered a "no contest.""

Forfeits don't happen unless the two teams are present and the officials have taken charge of the game. Reasons could be: a team running out of players during the game, excessive unsportsmanlike conduct by one of the teams or the home crowd, use of ineligible players discovered after the fact (thereby changing the result to forfeit)...things like that.

I know cancellations happen all to often at our level. They are simply cancellations, not forfeits. Your only recourse right now is to hope that the offending team's conference has penalties for their teams that cancel games. Of course, you can also be active at your conference meetings to not admit marginal teams. On a national level, we'll be working this summer on a policy that will cover all game cancellations, including interconference games.
