My dad teaches at Baylor and is part of a pilot program and grant to provide distance learning in engineering to schools in Texas without basic engineering courses. The school bought him a video iPod and I think most of his coursework is related via podcast type media. I dont know if his students are required to have an iPod or if they are provided one, but I assume they could use a variety of devices to view this material.
