Can we please kill this Chapman Talk? Every year we hear about Chapman's talent and they never back it up..When they post quality win after quality win, shall we consider them a top ten team..Until then can we can't talk about there talent because a TEAM always beats TALENT..

I saw most of ASU-Chapman. It was a game of four parts. During the first part (which I didn't see all of), ASU apparently looked fairly dominant and built up a small lead at like 5-2 or so. The next part was dominated by defense. There were not a lot of real good looks at the cage for a long time, I wouldn't even say that there we that many good sustained offensive possessions. There were a lot of defensive stops and then unforced errors by both squads. Chapman hung around long enough that I think they brought it to 6-5.

Then ASU sort got going with a lot of transition goals. Many times, it was started by a defensive take away, a ground ball by an athletic defenseman like Fischer who moved the ball up to Nelson who ran the show from there. Nelson finished with 1 and 4 and I recall that much of it was during this run. ASU's LSM Nick Johnson did a nice job between the restraining lines. He seemed to make key plays on loose balls and on the clear. According to ASU web site, Voskia was 16 for 20 on faceoffs and that seems about right. I believe the score went as high as 11-5 before Chapman made its run. Both Westfalls were heavily involved in the offense.

Then Chapman started to put together some decent offense. I remembered three goals scored by guys covered by short sticks where I found myself wondering where the slide should have come from. I think most of Chapman's scores came in settled offense. Some were just straight dodges and some were a result of nice ball movement. ASU gave up one goal when a feed from up top knuckled into the net. I think the same thing happened Friday night vs. Utah.

I don't know the Chapman personnel at all (except our local boy McCloone)l, so I apologize for the one-sided report. I'm from AZ so I know most of the ASU guys.

I will stick to my guns that I think Chapman is a good team. Apparently they may not be the powerhouse that I thought they were, but there are still a lot of games left in the season.

I'm not staring at the rankings right now, but I'm pretty sure they just traveled and lost in OT to #7 and by one goal to #19. I see some signs of the inconsistency of last year, but I assure you there shouldn't be anyone doubting that they have ability.

I was at the game. ASU is doing well. They have this beast Geoff Cooke also known as the Cookie Monster. The guy is fearless, a ground ball wrecking machine. He hit the gym hard in the offseason and is a spitting image of the child that Ivan Drago and Brian Bozworth would produce - We're talking about the real deal here people - Watch out for this animal, and be careful, his speed is deceptive.

Not a surprising win in my opinion. What is surprising is that Chapman is loaded with talent every year, but can't seem to get the job done. Maybe it has to do with all of the hype that this message board gives them. Waterboy, you still sticking with your prediction?

Why do people listen to Waterboy? He didn't even play lacrosse.

While it may be true Waterboy never played lacrosse, it does not discredit his opinion. He is pretty well informed and does his best to catch as many games as possible. You dont need to have played lacrosse to know that FSU was the most overhyped/underachieved team out there.

I agree with sohotrightnow, Chapman is way overhyped. They may have a few good, or even great players, but it takes more than 3 players to beat a squad that plays together. From what I saw of Chapman this weekend they had about three players who could drive and shoot, that was about their entire offense.

Unless you count the pass off of ASU defender Kevin Fischer's helemt into the goal scorers stick a set play.

Their hyped offense was not very impressive.[/quote]

It's not an issue of finding Chapman overhyped. I, in fact, think they are a very good team, that is young, thus will be prone to mistakes. The issue I have is people believing what Waterboy has to say...he has not played, so his insight into the game is limited.

Totally agree with this statement. Waterboy is one of the most well informed person on this board. His posts are usually well thought out and based on personal knowledge heving seen many teams play. I respect his opinion a lot more than others who usually have nothing positive to say.

That statement is ludicrous. You could say the same thing about any sport, i.e. baseball writers, sport journalists, etc. To say that someone's informed opinion doesn't mean anything is just flat out wrong.

Quite different here. How old are most baseball writers and journalists? How many years have they been following the sport? Lacrosse, especially on the west coast, is relatively new. How many people, outside of those who have played the game, take a genuine interest into the nuts and bolts of how the game is played? Does he break down film? How many games outside of San Diego has he watched? Did you see his predictions this past week? Just saying you should take his so-called expertise with a grain of salt.
