PNCLL Week #2 (2/13-19) -- Predict/Scores/Discuss

Postby Steno on Sun Feb 18, 2007 5:40 pm

Whitman over WSU 9 to 3

I know it's cliche, but these truly were the classiest group I've ever played. They never got down on us or each other, and they never got chippy when they were behind and tired, which is tough to do. I really think these guys should be reinstated as fast as possible.

Thanks WSU. Now come over and eat some burgers.

UPS defeats Willamette 16-4. . .I heard the score of the PLU vs. Linfield game was 6-1. . .and I think that's a final score.

For UPS, Reid Petit put up another 8 points (5g3a) and Connor Connelly added 5 points (4g1a)

The CWU-WOU game was pretty good and was a fight to the end. Central was down ten to five at the end of the half and then went down by another two goals early in the third to put WOU up twelve to five. Two stick penalties gave CWU the chance to fight back thanks to six minutes of non-releasable penalties. A real big win for western as it is our first opening season win, our first away game season opener, and our first win over the CWU Wildcats.
The true test of a player's character is not how he wins, but how he loses.

You are correct. Both of your teams have been touted as the next big program in the PNCLL for the last few years, & quite frankly there's no reason it can't happen. I don't believe the elite PNCLL B teams (exclude Montana) have improved as much as the teams at the cusp. I hope to see more parity in the years to come, as in WOU beats CWU who beats SOU who beats Team X who beats WOU. I'd love to see a strong defense shut down an attack to get a win or vice versa, but the matchup of team's strengths come into play during these tight games. I left UPS out because I hope we beat all of you, but it's nice to see teams not falter, you're growing, getting stronger, & keeping a solid foundation year after year. I think this says more for the WOU program than the CWU program, CWU is still a likely playoff team, has tons of talent, a new coach means improvements each week under a new system & there's no question the team has heart. It takes a lot to battle back from down 7. WOU winning that game puts them right into the heart of the playoff mix in the South as well.

Congrats to both your programs, sounds like we could easily see a playoff rematch.

Just want to give a shout out to CWU for giving us a great fight, it was really cool to see a team not get down on themselves and make the most of their oppurtunities down the stretch. Also have to say something about our two frosh middies Calvin Davis and Jonathan Nampei, both played great games and got several key gb's down the stretch that without would have more than likely been goals going the other way. All around great game to play in and I'm proud of all the WOU players for scrapping it out for the win. Two weeks off now until Linfield and SOU. Time to get better.
Peace.

So am I the only one that sees SOU creeping down there at 3-1? They beat St. Mary's an A team, and a good UC Santa Cruz team handily....and all in California. I'm warning you all now, their new goalie is a wall, and he's only a freshman.

Also thanks to UPS and PLU for a great weekend of lacrosse and showing us that the building process is still much harder than it looks.

I think everybody sees them coming, I mean come on, they were a final four team last year and even though they lost Chrisman they still have Whitehead, Snell and White, and this new goalie, it's just hard to tell about a team until they play a common opponent, in the same type of conditions. Yes they beat St. Mary's, an A club, but and A club that did not win a game last year. I'm not trying to diminish this win, any time you beat an A club thats awesome, I'm just saying these wins are hard to gauge. Also I don't know if I trust anyones opinion on lacrosse ability who says I have a right. I'd like to say I do but I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am a lefty who in the most dire of circumstances can put the ball in my right and have bout a 20% chance of the ball doing what i want it too. BUt hey thats why I play in the B's and not at U of O.

Very true, but my point was that they are better than last year, by a long shot. And they've already played TWO common opponents with us, and handled them by about a 17-18 goal better clip than we did. Now pause for snickers about Willamette handling anyone......OK now that we're beyond that, my point is that I think this team can legitimately challenge for the B title this season. Don't jump on me saying I don't know Montana is there, they are the reigning champs, I was just trying to point out the great things that are happening down at SOU.

We play the games to play the games, if we didn't we'd have to hand the title to Montana right now. I am excited to see how the balls bounce down in Ashland, because if they bounce right they are gosh darn hard to stop. Don't kill the messenger. I'll stop talking and let SOU do the work from here on out

Actually St. Mary's won 4 games last year. They also lost 4 games by one goal including losses to Stanford, Santa Clara, and Cal.

Thanks for the kind words Bearcat but we really don't mind if we are completely off the radar.
