So the Utes get the ball rolling on the Rich Levi era. I think they will start with bang, beating ASU 14-10, and beating UA 7-5. The U has lost a lot to graduation, but I think some players will step up. I am eager to see what walker hewlett and matt qualey do. I am a little concerned on the defense, with a freshman starting in net, but I hear the ute's goalie coach is a miracle worker.
USU heads down to provo to make up last week's game. I like USU, but I don't think the cougs do....BYU 25-0. This game does mark the collegiate debut of the son of the scariest defender in utah....
Division b gets started in a big way. Ft lewis is in West texas, UNC is in socal. I do not know enough about their competition to make a call. I fully expect Westminster to be 3-0 overall by the end of the weekend. I hear big things about NAU, although the last time I played against them they scored against themselves. Referee o'M started the faceoff backwards. The time before that their one armed attackman burned us for 7or8 goals. I will take the lumberjacks 10-3. I think Mines will put up a good fight, but drop one to DU 12-11. That one is at the DU stadium. Lastly, I think Wyoming will get over on UNM 13-2.
Good luck to all RMLC teams, especially those playing OOC this week. show everyone that the RMLC is where the best teams play.

Utah @ Arizona State – I think that Utah is going to come out a little shaky with some first game jitters. After ASU was pummeled by BYU last week they will be looking for revenge in any way shape or form. The Sun Devil defense was not impressive (not taking anything away from BYU) and Utah will not have any trouble putting the rock in the net. I don’t think Hopkins’ boys will be able to tackle Utah after they work out their kinks from the first half. If Utah is able to play physical, the Sun Devils should fold: Utah 11 – ASU 6
Utah @ Arizona – This one is always close one with Utah taking the last two contests (one in the fall in Las Vegas which does not mean anything). This year Utah gets Stefan Turkula back who has tallied 96 goals for Utah in his three years (03’-05’). Again I think the pressure will be on Arizona’s defense to see if they can stop the Ute’s attack (Fernandez, Hewlett, Watts, and Turkula). Both teams play on Friday, so the second half should tell the story. Arizona needs to break out of there shell and score in the double digits to pull this one off. They are playing against a freshman goalie in his first weekend of collegiate play, and I think they will do it: Utah 12 – Arizona 14

I don't know about 0-25, it was 0-11 last year. If you're referring to the game cancellation... I find that any team playing another team, regardless of skill or media coverage, after 2 weeks of practice is really not worthwhile. Luckily the game was rescheduled and will be played. USU is in such a hard place being the black sheep in RMLC A. With a lopsided B division it's time for another RMLC teams to step up to A make A more than a 4 team powerhouse.
Falsehoods are well-told, so think for yourself...

My rationale:
BYU got ASU 20-5, and I think ASU is a better team than USU. They were ranked. I really don't think 25-0 is outside the realm of possibility. My two times coaching against BYU they got at least 20 both times.... It is surprising how quickly a game can get out of hand.

Who would really be in a position to move up? Conference wide there is a huge dropoff after the top 4, Utah handled both Westminster and UVSC in past games, and I do not see enough of UNC to make a judgement on them.

Thanks Todd. I took those comments and copied and pasted them to a Team E-mail as a motivator. 13-1 was the score last year and of course I played Goalie and we had 10 guys make the long haul to Wyoming. We now have 20 guys and a pure College Team and we are improving each practice. Wyoming is on the other end this year making the trek to New Mexico.
UNM has been the biggest and most challenging project I have ever done and at times reminds me of my days at Winthrop in South Carolina. But it is coming. I am glad people underate us. It is going to be the Team that underates us and does not prepare for us that gets upset. We have some great Athletes just not the experience because of the lack of High School and youth Lacrosse here in New Mexico, but give it time and we will be up there with our counter parts in Utah and Colorado.
Some other news I am working on helping to form programs at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University which is half way between Albuquerque and the Colorado border in Las Vegas, New Mexico. So look for New Mexico State to come on line in a year or two
Good luck to everyone this weekend!

I'm a little off topic but...
Todd, I agree and would add that Utah also handles Utah State on a regular spring basis. Now that the RMLC has established it's top teams over the last few years it needs to supplement the A division with a "multi-tier competiton spectrum" a la WCLL. That way CSU, CU, Utah and anyone else who steps up can compete on one level and then USU and teams X,Y,Z could compete for a top spot in the RMLC as well. I feel that teams like UV, Westminster, UNC and Ft. Lewis could potentially move up because, in theory, they would hang or beat OOC A teams like St. Mary's, Claremont, Gonzaga, Boise and teams of that "higher than B, but not quite top 25 material". Example: Santa Clara and USC don't typically beat SSU, UCSB or CPSLO but they still hang in WCLL A which has 20 teams spread across the spectrum of club lax talent. West Coast Lax is a horse of a different color. Catch: Things that apply in other places don't necessarily apply to the WCLL, PNCLL, or RMLC, yet if one conference were to take notes from the other, perhaps that would stimulate growth and water down the the utter dominance of said teams. 3/5 Teams in the RMLC A made it to the MCLA "final four"...
Good Luck RMLC in OOC and go NAU against UNLV. Good Luck Rich, the Tribe is pullin' and I'm excited to see some of the results from this weekend's games.

Believe it or not it was a good game for our Team that the score does not tell. There were a lot of improvements and some positive things from our Defense. Our Offense started to work the ball and gain some huge improvements from the first game with New Mexico LC. Because of the snow our Cub Sports Department would not allow us to play on Johnson Field at UNM and I spent the last two days working to find a park field about 25 miles away from UNM near the Sana Ana Pueblo Reservation in Enchanted Hills of Rio Rancho where I live. One local High School even wanted to charge us $1500 Dollars to play on their field. It all worked out and the Mountain View Park field is better then some College Rec fields I have seen around the league.
It was a pleasure to host Mason Goodhand and Westminster College. They have a first rate organization and will be a factor to deal with in the RMLC Division B Championships and maybe at the National Tourney. Tomorrow Wyoming takes on Westminster College. Sunday, New Mexico takes on arch rival Mountain West foe Wyoming on Sunday from Mountain View Park in Rio Rancho, NM.
Good Luck to everyone this weekend,
