Team glove colors (MCLA)

Postby TheNino57 on Thu Feb 08, 2007 1:16 pm

Concerning the rule on matching team equipment, our team has black equipment with silver/white accent stripes/markings. We have one player with team gloves from his high school program that is black with green trim and another player with silver gloves with black trim. Will these gloves pass inspection or will we need to instruct these players to "black-out" the non-conforming parts of the gloves?

From my understanding the gloves all most have the same dominant color.

However, I dont think Black/Green is going to pass plus it looks really bush league.

My suggestion, go buy team custom gloves or if you can't afford it say our team glove is the Black Brine Deft, STX Ignitor, etc ( you get the idea ). You can save on not getting it customized plus you can make it a decently priced glove that everyone has.

Spray paint the green trim to black. Spray paint the silver gloves all black. You should be OK, but I would check with your Conference Director and your Conference Assignor for confirmation.

OK, so what would happen if a team had ordered custom team gloves in October but the company screws things up and the gloves don't come in time for their first 3-4 games? This happened to us this year and we had to go to one of the top guys in STX to get them to send us replacement gloves because of this rule. We had about half out team with different colored gloves that we had told not to get new gloves because we were ordering them. We ended up getting a free pair of gloves, STX I2's, but what would happen if we had not been able to get replacement gloves so our team could have all black gloves? would we have gotten a penalty because our order got screwed up? we have already played 2 games and they don't think we will get the custom gloves for another 2 weeks, would we get penalized for all of those games?

I'd suggest having a group of team loaner equipment, gloves & helmets specifically, build it into the budget for the future. We have about 8 sets, not every freshman is ready to buy a new helmet & gloves, just the basics will do for that first year. Even have them work them off in fundraising...

As far as delayed gloves coming in, tape, paint, anything to make it work until you can have a backup plan. You don't have to all have Brine Gloves, you can have any brand, it's just predominant color... If your team colors are Black & Red, your gloves can be black & red, some can be black & green, black & pink... but not red & black. Predominant color has to be the same color. I hope that helps, but Sonny is right, talk to your conference leadership about it & get it done. Good luck!

We had a problem like this several years back. The vendor was very good to us, and pulled pairs of all black gloves (35 of them) off the shelf, then we donated them to a local startup program.

Remember, you are the customer! I'd suggest finding a good vendor, and sticking with them.

We use Detroit Lax, and they do more than we could ever expect.

I thought we stopped allowing spray painted gloves 3 years ago... same time we stopped allowing spray painted helmets.
Otherwise, mis-matching gloves doesn't reflect well on your program. We have new gloves this year, but have been using $40.00 gloves for the past four years that have worked fine... I'd make the kids that are mis-matched buy new gloves.
