just some comments on a few of the games:
chapman/arizona should be a good battle...i say chapman by 3
cal/oregon...i say oregon by 6, but i hope cal makes it closer
ucsb/poly...i saw poly play last weekend and i think they'll have problems against the gauchos talented defense....ucsb by 3
whittier/noma... i could be far off on this but i don't think noma is what it used to be - whittier by 5+

I think Sonoma will struggle against Whittier. I think that they are missing some players....at least that is what I heard when I saw them play on Sunday. They have offensive weapons, but their long poles seemed out of sync against Santa Clara. Could've been just 1st game rust and all. They also have a relatively short bench which could be an issue in a hard fought, fast paced game. Their roster lists 31 players, but it didn't seem like that had that many on the sideline. It's also possible that Sonoma may be without starting goalie Warren Pringle as he had to leave the game on Sunday with a hand or thumb injury.
In any case, it will be good for them to get in a tough game prior to next weekend's big games against Oregon and Colorado State.

Chapman @ Arizona - Last year Arizona traveled to Los Angeles only get pounded by a very young, talented, but inconstant Chapman team. It's no secret that the Panthers have a potent starting midfield and attack unit (Martin, Farinelli, Lawson, and Clayton). Arizona returns two 20-goal scoring midfielders in Crawford (38g) and Fillmore. This will be Chapman’s first real test of the year. BYU finally nipped Arizona and we will get to see how the young Laxcats bounce back. This one will come down to whomever’s defense decides to show up and shut down the others “big guns”. I am going with the home team in a shootout: Chapman 11 - Arizona 12
UC Santa Barbara @ Cal Poly – The gauchos had an unfamiliar fall from grace last year after back to back National Championships (and 3 National Championship games in row). But, as May came they were one shot away from familiar territory against Colorado. UCSB seems to have a more distributed offense with Brendan Sindell leading the goal scoring. Cal Poly is coming of a win against an unknown Chico team. It appears that all their strength lies in the midfield, which is very different from past Poly teams. Poly could make a run come WCLL playoffs this year, as they did last year. However, the Gauchos will be able to shut the Mustang offense and take this one in a somewhat close contest: UCSB 13 - Cal Poly 7
Utah @ Arizona – This one is always close with Utah taking the last two contests (one in the fall in Las Vegas which does not mean anything). This year Utah gets Stefan Turkula back who has tallied 96 goals for Utah in his three years (03’-05’). Again I think the pressure will be on Arizona’s defense to see if they can stop the Ute’s attack (Fernandez, Turkula, Hewlett, and Watts). Both teams play on Friday, so the second half should tell the story. Arizona needs to break out of there shell and score in the double digits to pull this one off. They are playing against a freshman goalie in his first weekend of collegiate play, and I think they will do it: Utah 12 – Arizona 14

U of A defeats Chapman 9-8
This was told to me quickly over the phone by a U of A player in a loud place. It is very unofficial.
U of A lead 7-4. Chapman came back to take the lead. U of A tied it with 12 seconds in regulation. U of A scored the game-winner in OT off the ride.
