Facilities in SC or Atlanta

Facilities in SC or Atlanta

Postby champp on Fri Mar 04, 2005 2:37 pm

I am looking at planning a "spring break" trip for my HS team next year. (Coming from the DC area) I don't know that we have the resources to go all of the way to Florida, however, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to facilities in SC or Georgia? I know that most universities will be in session. Are there private facilities that lease their fields? Even better, are there private companies that help to arrange team trips such as this?

Thank you!

I'll have to try and find the info about it, but I'm taking my girls team to a spring break tourney in Hilto Head S.C. next year. I'm sure there is a similar program for guys. I gave all the stuff I had to the head of my booster club, because he said he would handle all the details, but next time I see him I will try to find out if there is a contact person you could talk to.

Go to www.sclacrosse.org and get in touch with Hal Ness and Rich Thomas . I'm sure you can find a lot of games around Hilton Head, Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and Myrtle Beach. If you guys wanted to stay in one place (Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach) I'm sure you could get a decent amount of games by having the in state teams travel to you. The biggest concentration of teams is in Greenville (6+), followed by Columbia (~5), and then Hilton Head(2). If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM, I'm pretty involved with the SC CHapter of USL

Also check out Wilmington, NC.

There are five high school teams there, you have the beach about a mile away, and some of the lacrosse is pretty good. I know the Cape Fear Academy coach, Paul Gilbert. He'll probably help you out with anything you need. Most of the teams are decent. There is great talent in the public schools, but poor coaching. The Cape Fear program is coached well, but the school is very small, and can only keep up so much with the growth (although used to be top 4 or 5 in the state a few years ago). As well, you're about an hour and a half from Myrtle Beach. Laney (Michael Jordan's high school) has been the dominant team in the area the past two years.

You also might be able to find some other schools coming down. Recently, a Section 6 A class NY team (Williamsville) and Friends out of the MIAA have been down.

we played some teams from up north when i was in hs.
a lot of times they would come to Greensboro, and play Greensboro Day School, then travel an hr away and play Durham Acadamy, and Durham Riverside, then keep goin to Wilmington where there are some teams down there... i think hoggard is one of the better teams from that area. but i could be wrong.
There are also some good teams in Charlotte.
