While things are still slow, I was wondering what teams did or did not do with the freeing up of a weekend after dropping the Crossover Tournament at the Conference Meeting. I think the Conference was really hoping it would encourage more OOC games or that travel would be used for OOC games.
We did not use it for that, as we already scheduled Emory - SELC, Dayton - CCLA, and St. Eds - LSA. Instead we used the free weekend essentially to set up a trip to Chicago to play a quick round robin with Augustana and Wheaton. We would not have scheduled these games if the Crossover still existed.
What extra games did the cancelling of the Crossover encourage you to pick up? Did you just decide to save money and not pick up extra games? Did you like the idea to drop the crossover (which often pitted two teams with no desire to play one another at all)?

We are basically using the Crossover weekend to play two thirds of our divisional games. We are headed to Iowa to play Iowa, Cornell and Western. However, because it did free up an important weekend we were able to schedule trips to PA to play Grove City and New Haven, MI to play Bethel and Calvin.
I am really glad that we decided to get rid of the crossover weekend because it allows SLU to come to Chicago and play and us to head out to PA or MI for a weekend because we don't have to schedule games that often times no one was interested in playing.

Creighton is using its 2 non-GRLC weekends to visit Denver on April 14-15 for games against Regis and Fort Lewis and to visit Minneapolis on April 21-22 for games against St. Thomas and Bethel.
While I miss idea of a crossover weekend where everyone got together for out of sub-division games, it was getting tougher and tougher to organize. It was nearly impossible to find a geographically central host location (for a reasonable fee) with access to turf fields (in case of bad weather) that didn't make deal breaking insurance demands.
We are very happy to have an extra weekend to travel out of conference.
