Here is the text of an email I sent out to 2542 people this afternoon:

This is a quick reminder of tomorrow's historic event.

US Lacrosse of Michigan will host its first mini convention and annual meeting on January 27, 2007. A US Lacrosse annual meeting has never before taken place in the state of Michigan. Numerous speakers, coaches and players will present on various topics throughout the day. Several vendors will also be available for equipment and paraphernalia purchases.

The event will take place at:
Maltby Middle School
4740 Bauer Road
Brighton, MI 48116

Quick Directions: Take I-96 to Brighton Exit 145, go South on Grand River Ave and make a quick Right onto Challis Rd, go 1.3 miles and turn Left onto Bauer Rd, go 0.6 of a mile and the school will be on the Right.

The event begins at 12:00 noon in the cafeteria with a presentation by chapter president Bob Stevenson and continues with classroom sessions, demonstrations, and meetings, with multiple options up until 5:30 p.m. You can see the website for a list of presenters and options.

It’s free for US Lacrosse members, so please bring proof of membership. Without membership the cost of admission is $5.00 per person or $20 per family.

Presenting topics include:
• Stick skills/tricks and stick competition
• History of lacrosse in Michigan
• Keys to reaching players’ potential
• Meet and greet with NCAA coaches
• Improving offense and defense
• How to become a youth coach
• How to become an official
• Recruitment process
• How to string a stick

It is the chapter board members’ hope this event will have a lasting impression on Michigan lacrosse players, families, coaches, officials, youth and adults for years to come.

The mission of US Lacrosse is to ensure a unified and responsive organization that develops and promotes the sport by providing services to its members and programs to inspire participation, while preserving the integrity of the game. We envision a future which offers people everywhere the opportunity to discover, learn, participate in, enjoy, and ultimately embrace the shared passion of the lacrosse experience.

Overall I thought this was a VERY positive step in the right direction for USL in Michigan. Most of our staff was there for the day and we were able to answer many questions from programs looking to improve here in Michigan.

Bob Stevenson (USL-MI president and the MSU women's coach) did a great job setting this up. I look forward to future events like this.

Feel free to post those types of events well in advance next time fellas. The only reason I knew about it was the very late news blurb in the Ann Arbor Newspaper on Friday afternoon. No one has posted a word about the event in this CCLA forum!

I'm sure CCLA coaches/players/officials would like to know about these events well in advance for planning purposes. Feel free to encorage the use of the CCLA forum with other Michigan area lacrosse folks so they know they have a message board where they can exchange information 24 hours a day.

Lacrosse has its day in Brighton

By Dan Strawser
DAILY PRESS & ARGUS

BRIGHTON — Brighton was the center of the Michigan lacrosse world Saturday.

The U.S. Lacrosse Michigan Chapter held its annual meeting and mini convention at Maltby Middle School, while Wooster College women's lacrosse coach Liz Ford helped put on a clinic for Brighton High School girls at the high school.

The convention at Maltby had something for lacrosse fans of all ages — from hands-on instructional clinics to coaching clinics and even programs on the history of lacrosse in Michigan.

Chris Irish, a sophomore at Brighton, had his eye on a class for stick stringing.

"I came to learn how to string a stick because I don't know how," Irish said. "I'm tired of paying my friends to do it."

Chris found out about the convention from his parents, who found out from Craig Raycraft, who coaches the Brighton Middle School teams.

"Both of our boys play lacrosse," said Laurie Irish. "Our middle-schooler (Jeff) was on a travel team last year. We thought we'd come and check it out."

Chris had a chance to walk around and see many of the different vendors and watch some of the other activities.
