Theoretical Discussion on LSA North/South Alignment

Now before anyone rips me for starting a topic like this, it is for discussion purposes only right now. Yes, I know we just started this season. Yes, I know a lot can happen between now and the conference meetings. However, it has been brought up to me a few times recently. IF the teams stay the same as they are right now heading into the Fall of 2007, do we look into a possible realignment for next year? Again, I know there will be a lot of factors to look at, such as any team moving up from the B division or any new teams being accepted. With 7 in the North and 5 in the South, it has to beg the question......will a realignment be needed and how will it work?

I think Karl is correct. Moving Texas to the South would be the only feasible option. Given the results of the past few years of LSA competition, this would have huge implications and could potentially have a dramatic effect on the LSA playoff scenario.

Hypothetically, we could split into three divisions, the north, central, and south, should another team rejoin or move to A in the south
North: Tech, SMU, OU, UNT, OSU
Central: Texas, Baylor, Texas State, TAMU
South: LSU, Rice, Tulane, Other Team

TAMU or TxState and other team could be maneuvered accordingly, depending on the location of the 'Other Team'.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. I'm not sure even how the playoff scenario would work. Maybe the top teams is each division and a wild-card, which would play the team with the worst conference record out of the three division leaders?

Thats a very interesting scenario. This topic is all in good fun anyway, just to pass time between games. I just like to see what ideas people have. There is plenty of time for things to change.

I like the three conference look...that'd make things interesting. How would play-off work under that at the end of the year, maybe a round robin or just go straight seeds from each division? But probably the most viable for next fall would be UT going south like karl said

That was the assumption I was making for 'Other team' ... Haven't heard anything yet though.

i think it's Southwestern and St. Eds...but who's the third? Trinity?

That and i know that Southwestern Oklahoma State is organizing, there'd be another Div B Team

Hendrix (Arkansas), Trinity, Southwestern, and Austin College are all part of the D-III SCAC. According to a recent discussion with the SCAC Assistant Commisioner, he acknowledged that lacrosse would most likely be the next sport to enter varsity play in the conference. However, he also stated there is no time frame to do that and there is nothing currently on the table.

Given that, Hendrix has hired a coach to prepare for varsity play in the spring of 2008. I guess that means they will be joining a different conference for lacrosse until the SCAC has its own conference.

Yes. Another team from Louisiana was Nicholls State (LSA Div. B).

Loyola NO is still around...They play against NOLC often and bring numbers depending on how the sun is shining.

Nicholls is another story.
