There was recently an awful damned lot of talk about how a team ought to schedule a bunch of games with PNCLL teams prior to joining the league to build up the program some beforehand. Let's see some of you put your money where your mouth is and show some support for league growth by playing some games with WSU.

I never received an email. I have 2 emails listed on pncll.com, the lacrosse@ups.edu email is not available right now (hopefully in the near future).

Before people start hammering other teams for not showing up, not all teams are in a position to make that trip right now. I'd like to invite Idaho (and any other eastern WA team) to come play in Tacoma. 1 month before the season starts funding should be a little tight.

Jake, shoot me an email with weekends you were hoping for & I'll see what I can do. Our budget is running pretty tight this year with new uniforms, but we'll hopefully be able to work something out. Also, take a look at teams hosting a single game in a weekend & see if you can pickup another game with them. Might be easiest, officials will already be there.

I just sent you an e-mail Jake, we'd love to get some more UI-WSU action.

For all the other teams: Moscow, ID (UI) and Pullman, WA (WSU) are only 8 miles apart. It's a great chance to pick up two games. We have been able to get a look at the current WSU team and I will promise you'll get a run for your money. They are well worth adding!

As I recall, we tried to arrange some fall action with WSU. Your team wasn't interested in missing any home football games. It's a two-way street, fellas.

There were other financial implications that held us back as well. We wern't able to pay 400 dollars just for the tournament aside from travelling costs. We had other use of our money, such as new uniforms. We offered to host you guys here, so if its a two-way street... I believe you owe us a trip.

We offered you games in the fall AFTER our tournament. Yes we played you in Ellensburg last year, but that was a favor. You weren't members of the league yet and we showed our support for your program by hosting you. You didn't apply for membership this year citing financial reasons. What financial problems are holding WSU back?

If teams make the trip out to Pullman, will your club be able to pay for the MCLA referee fees?

By the way, the tournament fees weren't $400 + the cost of travel. Check your records again.

Our financial problems are that when we re-started this club two years we were in a financial deficit with our club sports federation. The club had previously failed to meet the financial responabilities that they had to the university.

As I remember from my records, you and JC had no interest in travelling here to play us during the fall. And yes, last year was a favor and thank you for that. There doesn't need to be any hostility between our teams.

You know, I seem to recall that the league is collecting a small surplus in our budget. What are the logistics of creating a club start-up subsidy/loan program for helping teams join the league? It could be set up so that it could be paid back over a period of time, with interest perhaps. This would allow financially hindered teams like WSU, who are in a fairly lax-bare area, to get rolling and get players committed via league play. Just an idea.

Band, not a bad idea... I'd be more inclined to work toward a lasting set of officials & their development. If we were to give WSU $5k would that mean they had a dedicated program/infrastructure? No. What Jake is working for, & has been is what will get WSU back in the league... not a handout.

Was just tossing ideas around, I'm sure its not something that will happen anytime soon.

I just feel for Jake because it seems he has found himself and his team in a bit of a Catch-22. WSU can't join the league because they can't afford it, but they can't raise money via dues or fundraising because they can't get the dedication of time/money from his playerbase without having a dedicated coach or a competitive league to play meaningful games in. (Someone here will likely come along and deride the implication of that last sentence but that really is how it works sometimes.)

I hope it works out for WSU.

As far as it is going for WSU right now, it is working. We constantly get new guys out and our university has done a very good job catering to us. Our spring schedule is up in the air but we have some teams who we are pretty close to being locked down with. So far, whitman, montana, idaho, and gonzaga have all showed interest. We still are very determined on getting a couple of games over on the westside but most of the teams have a pretty packed schedule. UPS, PLU, UW, and WWU are all possibilities.

I continue to support your efforts at getting Cougar Lacrosse back into the PNCLL. The Huskies will look forward to the day we can resume our in-state rivalry. This will all be due, in no small part, to your initiative and leadership.

But the truth is UW won't be able to play WSU during the Spring again until Coug Lax returns to our schedule as a PNCLL A Division game. We wish you the best of luck and hope to see you at the PNCLL Annual Meeting in September, where you can count on our vote for your re-admission, provided you guys demonstrate you are ready. I am confident you will succeed. Best of luck and keep up the great work.
