Goalies came through big

Postby Andy Sharp on Mon Feb 07, 2005 4:48 pm

Our attack did what was expected of them, while they did not exceed my expectations offensively, they did do an excellent job defending clears. Looking at the stats, I think we had our first games since I've been a coach that our o-middies outscored the attack, so they have stepped up. Our defense/d-middies performed very well, while getting a ton of penalties (>30) and not playing like the official was requiring . . . maybe they wanted to practice our man-down unit, which I don't remember giving up a goal. Our two new goalies came up big as well, only giving up 1.75 gpg, that's who the guys ran to following the championship win.

Petition: How about everyone being upfront about who they represent? While ambiguous names might promote more chat, I'd rather know which team is asking the questions and what bias might be present in one's observations.

This year is going to be great in Division B with teams playing out of conference. We look forward to a great year at Fort Lewis. We look forward to competing for a national title. We hope to represent the RMLC!

andy-
I don't know how to get one of those fun icons by the side of my posts, but I play defence for UVSC. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. These chat rooms are a great way for Div. B to start to get to know each other, i'm a little jealous of teams like UCSB and BYU/CSU all knowing so much about each other's programs. Good luck this weekend and let us know how you did.

It is just my bias opinion and my pride in the SELC but any of the top five schools in the SELC could take this thing. There maybe some competition out in the WCLL or the Rocky Mountain Conference but I think any of the top SELC Teams could win this whole thing. Davidson is my favorite they have a great fundalmental program. Elon is just plain loaded with talent. Emory is also a loaded Team. App. State is coached well and our Team at Liberty is just plain scrappy. I think any of these Teams could come out and surprise the western Teams and take the whole thing.

Go SELC Div. B!

I am confident that whomever makes it from the RMLC will take it all. Although right now it is all speculation. Fall has no bearing on the spring we all know that or UNC would be ranked a lot higher than 24. Another factor is the OOC play FLC and UNC will both be playing UTA and that should then be a good measure of how conferences differ.

I saw Texas Arlington back when UC-Irvine was in Texas and I will be pleasantly surprised if they come away with a win against Utah Valley State 3/17, Fort Lewis 3/19, or even Northern Colorado 4/17 at home.

The greater unknown for me are the WCLL and PNCLL, but I hope to get a grasp during my trip next week. The Fort Lewis @ San Diego 3/10 will be nice to see, but I am sorry I didn't notice the Linfield @ Utah Valley State 3/21 game I would have definitely stuck around another day to see that game. Any chance you can move that up to Sunday?

Our team has played Calvin this year, and played St. John's twice last year. Both pounded us badly, but I'm going to say that St. John's tip the scale. I don't think they lost anybody to graduation and thier freshman class is incredible. They've already beaten ranked teams in Texas, one with authority. I say they take it. I've also like to say that I think St. Thomas is underated. (Maybe not top 5, but where are they in the 25?) In the B-Division, I think the UMLL has made become a much stronger conference and we'll see it this spring.

I am assuming that the "one with authority" is Texas-Arlington. If thats the case then Harding has also beaten the same ranked team "one with authority" and by a larger margin than St. Johns (5 goals compared to 2 goals). Harding has also beaten two Div A teams just for the record. They did lose to Creighton who is nationally ranked now. Just saying don't count out the conference champions from any conference. I really don't think it will be the tournament favorite who is going to win it all.

The Div B national tournament is completely up in the air as to who is going to win it. Unfortunately there hasnt been enough cross conference competition to really say who is going to win like there has been in Div A.

I think he meant Trinity, who SJU beat 14-4.

I think we will be able to tell alot from what happens in the next 2-3 weeks, at least for all of us over here in the west. Fort is going down to cali this weekend to play their top D-II teams, UVSC is playing the top Washington teams next weekend, and then UVSC and Fort are playing the following weekend. we both play Tex. arl. who some of you claim to have beaten with authority (i don't consider 2 or 5 goals authority). After these games, for the west, we'll be able to better compare the talent out here.

The only ranked team that St. Johns played on that trip was Texas-Arlington. They also played SFA (2-5) and Trinity (3-4). Therefore the only ranked team that they could have beated with authority is UTA.

I completely agree that beating someone that 2 or 5 goals is not beating someone with authority. I was making a comment that new-WI-l-axplayer
made about St. Johns beating a ranked team with authority. Also I do not think that beating unranked teams should move you up in the polls. For further arguments on this look at the thread on Lindenwood moving up in Div A polls.

Trinity was like #15 when we beat them. UTA was #5. We are the only current top 15 team that will play UTA at their home, and it was our first game of the season, and the first time outside in like 3 months (for those that don't know we live in igloos in central minnesota during the winter).

In response to "new-WI-l-axplayer", we appreciate your comments and we only lost 2 real seniors that were of impact, a middie, our goalie and had one defenseman that transferred. We have had sweet freshman that filled in niceley though- with an H.S. All-American at attack, quite a few middies with experience, and our new goalie (backup last year and the year before) who is a junior has filled in beautifully. I have no idea whats going to happen in Blaine this year or if we will be there playing, all i know is that it will be a blast. I am just glad it is a quick 10 minute drive from my house.
