US Lacrosse Convention

So I missed the convention for the 1st time in 4 years... What did I miss? Did anyone see a presentation that really stood out? I will be back next year, for sure.

I would say that Coach Pressler's presentation on building programs really stood out for a couple reasons.

First, the keynote speaker was directly before him. In my opinion (and again this is only my opinion) the keynote speaker took very broad generalizations of sports in general, and applied them to Lacrosse. He also showed extreme ignorance of the sport, and it's landscape. That being said, he put up a "comic strip" that featured 3 guys who were obviously supposed to be Duke Lacrosse players saying "well, we didn't rape her, but we are the real victims because we paid her to strip and she didn't." This was so off base especially considering coach Pressler was in the front row waiting to speak next.

Coach Pressler took the stage to a standing ovation which was very emotional for him. He was "choked up" for much of the presentation, and did a wonderful job.

Other than that, I was not either over or underwhelmed by the rest of the content. Some was good, some was dry, and old.

Whatever your opinions about the state of this legal case, I think we can all agree that this completely out of line. I'm surprised he didn't get booed off the stage!

The programs for officials were quite good, and the volume of material for officials continues to increase. There were about 14 hours of material for officials between Friday night and Sunday morning, plus numerous committee meetings. That's in addition to the 7 hours of clinician training on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Coach Pressler is an awesome guy. I had the privelege of working with him at the Naval Academy camps up in Annapolis this last summer. I learned more from sharing a field with him for a couple hours than almost anything else.

If you can go hear him speak then do it.
