Wingate, N.C. -- The Deep South Conference lacrosse league will have a new look in 2007, with five members: Catawba College, Mars Hill College, Presbyterian College, Saint Leo (Fla.) University and Wingate University. One of the oldest and most prestigious lacrosse leagues in the South, the Deep South Conference is dedicated to the highest quality of competition and sportsmanship.

During the summer of 2006, the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference voted to sponsor men's lacrosse. As a result of this move, former Deep South Conference members Belmont Abbey College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Pfeiffer University, Queens University of Charlotte and St. Andrews Presbyterian College will now compete in the CVAC.

The 2007 season is the 14th year of competition for the Deep South Conference. In 2007, a regular season champion will be crowned. In addition, a post-season tournament will be held April 20 and April 22 at Catawba College in Salisbury.

The original Deep South Conference began play in 1994 with Catawba, Greensboro, Limestone, Pfeiffer and Virginia Tech. In 1995, St. Andrews was admitted to the DSC. Greensboro left the same year, with Virginia Tech exiting the following season.

In 1997, the league grew to accommodate the additions of Wingate and Lees-McRae. With six teams, the Deep South Conference held its inaugural postseason tournament in 1997. In 1999, Mars Hill entered the Deep South Conference, increasing its membership to seven teams. Queens entered the league in 2004 to give the DSC eight teams. Belmont Abbey and Presbyterian joined in 2006.

Ten teams competed for the 2006 Deep South Conference title. An amazing five teams shared the 2006 DSC regular season championship. Three DSC teams have participated in the NCAA Division II tournament. The league owns two national titles.
