Williams and Evans score three
SAN JOSE, Calif. (CP) - Shawn Williams and Scott Evans each scored three goals as the Rochester Knighthawks defeated the San Jose Stealth 14-11 in a National Lacrosse League game Friday night.
Shawn Evans, Mike Accursi and Ken Millin added two goals each and Chris Schiller and Brian Croswell chipped in with one each for the Knighthawks, 1-1. Shawn Evans had six assists.
For San Jose, Gary Rosyski and Luke Wiles each scored three and Jeff Zywicki, Wes Green, Cam Sedgwick, Kyle Sorensen and Colin Doyle added one each.
Doyle also had two assists in his debut with the Stealth. The 2005 league scoring champion and MVP was acquired in a trade with Toronto just before Christmas.
Rochester was without last season's leading NLL goal scorer, John Grant, who was suspended for the game for his hit from behind last weekend on Colorado defenceman John Gallant.
Rochester held quarter leads of 4-2, 9-6 and 11-7 and outshot San Jose 55-48. The Stealth scored three times in the last 90 seconds but were too far behind to make them matter.
Pat O'Toole earned the goaltending win, while Anthony Cosmo took the loss in his team's season opener.
The Knighthawks' power play went 4-for-5 while the Stealth were 2-for-6.
