KNIGHTHAWKS REACH 100 WINS IN 14-11 WIN OVER SAN JOSE

(Rochester, January 5)… The Rochester Knighthawks became only the third team in National Lacrosse League history to reach 100 wins, as they defeated the San Jose Stealth 14-11 tonight at HP Pavilion.

The Knighthawks won the game despite not having perennial All-Pro John Grant in the lineup. Grant was suspended for one game for an incident in the December 30th game at Colorado.

The loss spoiled the home and season opener for the Stealth and newly acquired forward Colin Doyle. Rochester improved to 1-1 and joined Buffalo and Philadelphia as the only other franchise’s to hit the century mark in wins.

Rochester was led by a career-best performance from Shawn Evans (2+6). Shawn Williams (3+2), Scott Evans (2+3) and Ken Millin (2+3) each chipped in five points each. Pat O’Toole earned the win in goal, stopping 37 shots.

San Jose got six points from Gary Rosyski (3+3) and five from Luke Wiles (3+2). Doyle added one goal and two assists in his San Jose debut. Anthony Cosmo was tagged with the loss, despite making 41 saves.

Rochester opened the game with a 3-1 lead and took a 9-6 lead into halftime. The Knighthawks grabbed a four-goal lead in the third as Chris Schiller and Mike Accursi scored for the 'Hawks. Schiller's goal was shorthanded and was one of seven special team's goals for Rochester (six power play and one shorthanded).

The Knighthawks opened the game up in the fourth, taking a 14-8 lead after two goals by Millin. San Jose never quit and netted three straight shorthanded goals in a 49-second span to reduce the lead to 14-11. The Stealth's 10th goal was Doyle's first with San Jose.

Rochester plays its home opener on Saturday, January 13th against the Toronto Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The first 10,000 fans that night will receive Thundersticks courtesy of Time Warner Cable. The official Postgame Party will be held at Pig-N-Whistle (7 Lawrence Street).

To commemorate the Knighthawk's 13 season, 13 lucky fans at the game will win season tickets for the remainder of the season. Fans can sign up at the ticket table in the upper atrium lobby.
