Disgruntled Lions fans planning stadium walkout

Postby Sonny on Fri Dec 22, 2006 12:16 pm

Some fans in Detroit are planning to protest the dismal state of the William Clay Ford-owned and Matt Millen-led Detroit Lions in their home finale for the second straight year.

Last season, about 500 people marched, chanting "Fire Mil-len!, before the Lions hosted the Cincinnati Bengals, and many wore orange during the game.

On Sunday against Chicago, another protest has been initiated by disgruntled fans. With 8:57 left in the second quarter, those interested in showing their displeasure with Ford and Millen are asked to walk out of their seats and to later walk out of the stadium.

DirecTV Sunday Ticket. Unfortunately, it's part of the package. However, I have supported the fans in their protest all season by not watching any of their games. :)

But I will be watching their game on New Year's eve...How 'Bout Them Cowboys!!!

(Hangs head in shame at being a Michigan resident and "part-owner" of the Lions - we own a Ford Windstar after all) :(

How come all these other formerly sucky teams ('Aints, Chargers, Bucs) all can turn around their franchises, and the Lions have sucked for the 25 years I've lived here? Huh? What's up wit dat?
The only good news, my Fantasy team is in the Super Bowl this weekend - yeah Baby - Just Win!

First off, there are Lions fans who would own up to the fact? :P

Secondly, they have every right to be upset since they paid for that stadium. Then again, why not cancel their season tickets and stop buying the merchandise. I am sitting today with my family and they all whinge about the Redskins and how bad they are and that the owner is a dink. But until "fans" cut off the the revenue streams, these owners will continue to bring in the money and sellout the corporate boxes.

Not that I am a huge Redskins fan but i had season tickets from 1998-2002. I waited on the waiting list for 25 years for them and after five miserable seasons, I gave them up. It is one thing to complain and walk out. it is another to put your money where your mouth is.

"They pay 60 or 80 bucks for a ticket, so they can do what they want with it," Detroit tackle Jeff Backus said. "It's their right to do that. We're not putting a good product on the field, so if that's the way they want to react to it, then so be it."

That pretty much sums it all up. The players don't care because they are getting paid, regardless and the administration knows that that once I gave up my Redskins seats, there was someone else just as happy as I was when I got mine, to plonk down and pay $1200+ for two bad seats for 11 home games.

From a purely professional standpoint, I certainly encourage everyone to patronize as many professional sporting events they can each year. Purchase as much product from sports advertisers. Also, watch as much golf as they can on cable over the next 15 years. Thank you.
