Club Sports: Worth the Cost of Admission

Club Sports: Worth the Cost of Admission

Postby onpoint on Thu Mar 03, 2005 10:06 am

As all of my regular readers know by now, I follow a strict policy of always telling it how it is. While this is sometimes viewed unfavorably by the more politically correct among us, it's a way of life for me. So, in continuing this tradition I would like to say that collegiate sports at CSU suck. Now, I realize this is a fairly broad and harsh generalization, so let me explain further.

I actually have no idea how the women's water polo or men's golf teams have been doing. I know for a fact, however, that the vast majority of the football games and every single basketball game I have attended the past two semesters have ended in disappointing losses. Now all of this is neither here nor there and I am not placing any blame for the sub-par seasons some of our teams have been experiencing. I merely want to suggest an alternative form of entertainment for the rest of you disappointed fans out there: club sports.

The guy sounds like nothing more than a bitter rugby player. What is it about the folks in Fort Collins and the fact they can only remember what happened in the past year or two? The Rams have played in bowls more often than not during the Lubick era and had a bad year this year. The guy must be a freshman if the teams have stunk since he got there.

It's the same kind of selective history and short-term memory that have Ram fans saying that UW has always stunk in football because of its record during the Vic Koenning era.

I understand it's easier to give the women's swimming coach a raise and use some of the swimmers on the women's water polo team, but why add a sport that is going to require so much travel instead of adding soccer like the rest of the MWC?
