NCLL teams joining MCLA?

Postby NELAX21 on Thu Dec 07, 2006 1:12 pm

I just wanted to see what people thought of this. I have a friend on an NCLL team in the mid atlantic region (does not want to state what team because of league issues.) I was talking to him about thier league and he is a student president of one of the teams and said that there are a lot of teams that are very unpleased with how thier league is going. They want to have a more serious league but the people in charge will not let them make the changes necessary. There are a good amount of teams that would be very interested in joining our league. If these teams did join our league it would probably be the end of the NCLL, which would make for a totally national club league in the MCLA. I know this would affect Conferences, or have to make a new conference and affect tha playoffs and all of that. I just want to know how everyone would feel about some of those teams joining our league.

I don't think the MCLA Board will accept any new teams en mass as a new conference. Individual NCLL teams would have to apply (& be accepted) by one of the nine current MCLA conferences to prove themselves first. I don't think anything has changed in that regard over the last 5 - 6 years.

P.S. I would argue that we already are a national league with 200 teams across the country:
Boston/New England to San Diego/LA
Seattle/British Columbia, Canada to Miami
Minnesota/North Dakota to Texas
:)

I agree that we are a national league, but we are lacking in the Mid- Atlantic region where there are a lot of schools in the NCLL, also it would mean One National League, not 2 big leagues

It wouldn't mean the end of the NCLL, even in the most extreme circumstance it would mean a scaled down NCLL because they would still retain all the club teams with varsity counterparts.

Maybe so, but the MCLA is over three times as big as the NCLL right now. And it's getting worse each and every season.

That's a good question Sonny. If say, 12 teams from major colleges in the M-A region all applied...would the possibility of a new conference being commissioned be considered?

I seriously, seriously doubt it.... They are going to have to prove themselves FIRST as a productive member of one of the existing MCLA conferences.

We don't have enough good people to help manage our current conferences & teams. Adding more conferences with out appropriate leadership or oversight wouldn't help matters.

As a related side issue - I think more and more conferences should be looking into paid executives to run their day to day operations. Some of the current conferences have ~30 teams and control thousands of dollars. The days of one individual spending a few hours a month on conference issues are long gone.

(Note that these are only my personal opinions based on my past experience on the board and in talking with many members of the current MCLA Board of Directors.)

It looks like a majority of the schools in the Mid-Atlantic region are already excluded because of their varsity teams. Most of the schools in the NCLL that would be eligible to join the MCLA are in the PA, OH, and TN area.

Tennessee???

More like Eastern PA, Ohio, Kentucky, NJ, NY. Plus a few random schools in Northern VA, Maryland or Wash, DC.

my point is this: The majority of the schools that would be both interested AND eligible are already in areas that could easily be served by the CCLA, PCLL, and SELC

Agreed. And that is the point that current NCLL teams considering the move over to the MCLA must consider.

Our FAQ:
http://www.collegelax.us/faq.php
has some other issues to consider if teams are new to this level of play.

I saw this and got curious. Emailed a couple buddies at NCLL schools (could even be the same one as NELAX21). Sounds like an absolute mess over there. Hope they can get their act together.

Can anyone specify the NCLL 'mess'? I had actually heard things had gotten more organized overthere in recent years but I could be wrong.

The discussion over on LaxPower sounds like what I've heard. The league was coming back for a while but is backsliding. There's a post about halfways down (from "Norm"):

The elder [son] has participated in the NCLL for the past two years and explained to me last spring the league was heading in the correct direction. Unfortunately, I e-mailed him about [the thread here] and he called to chat with me about it. The league is going back towards its bizarre ways of 2004 and 2005. According to him, the head of the NCLL has decided to vanquish the opinions of the teams and individuals associated with the administration of the league. He also mentioned that the actions of whoever was in charge was extremely unsettling but would not tell me why.

The school my friend goes to does not want to be named because of the league admins. He does not want his club blacklisted because he is trying to get out of the league. But from i have heard from him is that his club is not the only one that feels that way in their league and would very much like to join ours, but their schools have varsity programs. i just was trying to help him out and see what people thought about letting these teams in.
