Westminster College

I was just wondering as to which NCAA Division Westminster College may eventually apply for?

The school is NAIA, I believe.

I believe someone told me they are looking at D2, and potentially moving to the NCAA. When, however, is the biggest mystery. But when the school puts as much money into it's athletic facilities as they did, you would have to think more sooner than later.

The minimum requirements for DII and DIII are the same - 5 men's teams and 5 women's teams with appropriate equity balance. The difference is in athletic financial aid - DII's can offer it with a per sport maximum as approved by the NCAA while DIII's cannot offer any athletic financial aid. I believe Westminster currently fields the required number of teams. Westminster hired there first-ever athletic director this year, so it is just a matter of time. Mase doesn't care either way as I understand it.

I did realize that Westminster College was an NAIA school and was considering "applying" for NCAA play. So I am guessing they are sort of in the same boat as Dominican University (California) except maybe Westminster is not considered a "varsity" program like Dominican is doing (is this a correct statement?). Hopefully both of these programs do join the NCAA ranks soon. It would be great if they did join the D II ranks and laying a foundation for a "Western Lacrosse Conference" of sorts with Notre Dame de Namur. BTW does anybody know the minimum teams in a conference required for a bid to the D II tournament (I know the D II tournament is kind of different in terms of bids)?

Hasn't Dominican flirted between the WCLL and independent affiliation??
