BCS Bowl Games

Postby Beta on Mon Nov 27, 2006 10:15 am

6 days till they make their selections. Teams already in appear to be Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Boise State. Teams on the bubble are:

Arkansas/Florida
GaTech/Wake Forest
Oklahoma/Nebraska
Rutgers/Louisville
LSU

Boise State gets a BCS bid? I understand the WAC conference usually only has 1 team ranked but seriously, them getting a high-dollar bowl is ridiculous when they don't schedule anyone that is good...or even decent from a good conference. When was their last victory of a ranked opponent...2003 over TCU? Scheduling Oregon State every year doesnt constitute a good OOC schedule that makes up for a wek in-conference schedule. I think Im going to start a college football team and play "Bedford All Girl's School for the Blind" every week and go to a BCS game. I mean why not? Why schedule good teams anymore if you're going to get a good bowl game regardless of your opponents?

If Boise State gets the BCS invite, the amazing thing is that because of the WAC league revenue sharing agreement, teams like Utah State (1-11) will get close to $1.0M in the fomula. BYU goes 10-2 and will be lucky to take home $200K after revenue sharing and expenses for the Pioneer Pure Vision Las Vegas Bowl.

Why are you upset that they are going to a high-dollar bowl?

If ND gets to play in the BCS, there is no reason why Boise State shouldn't. ND gets punked by Mich. and USC but beats the service academies (Go Navy!) and UNC so they get to go BcSing? I think BSU at least did that much and remember, Oregon St. beat USC.

I think ND/BSU would be a good matchup. I'm also in favor of the USC bump over Michigan. OSU/USC would be a great game to watch.

the ncaa needs to do what the USLIA did a couple years ago and get rid of independents.

Push ND into the big X (being the 12th team) and force everyone to have a conf championship game.

ND's preferential treatment is especially glaring after a season like this.

More than likely this year there will be 2 teams facing off for the national title that did not have to win a conference title.

You got that right, Cliff! Why exactly is Boise State not BCS worthy?

Forget the BCS, let's bracket the fantasy NCAA playoffs. If four teams, we'd have:

#4 Florida at #1 Ohio State
#3 Michigan at #2 USC

But if we could get an eight-team tourney, you'd come up with some great quarter-final pairings:

#8 Boise State at #1 Ohio State
#7 Wisconsin at #2 USC
#6 Louisville at #3 Michigan
#5 LSU at #4 Florida

Big losses to end the regular season knock out Arkansas and Notre Dame from the "tourney".

Anybody want to debate the seedings?

Explain why it would be a bad thing to add a playoff system again? I mean, you have an 8 team playoff system called the true BCS...it's a championship series of games. 4 games to 2 games to 1 big game. That's 7 games instead of 4 in the current BCS...you're telling me sponsors wouldn't jump all over for the chance to be included in that? All 7 games combined would draw more ratings than the superbowl.

bowl games=big money. Money always wins.

But i would love to see a 8 team playoff system. I think the championship game of the playoff could draw even more fans who followed the whole playoffs then a BCS title match would.

If Notre Dame gets into the BCS I am going to be sick,

The teams they've played this year

GT, ND won 14-10 GT will play in ACC champ game
PSU, ND won 41-17
Michigan, ND loss 47-21
Michigan State, W 40-37
Purdue W 35-21
Stanford W 31-10
UCLA W 20-17 6-1
Navy W 38-14 7-1
North Carolina W 45-26
Air Force W 39-17
Army W 41-9 10-1
USC L 44-24

Final record 10-2

In my opinion they have played three good teams, GT being included with Michigan, and USC. In those three games, ND has been outscored 59-101. While they did beat GT, I still don't believe they belong in a BCS game, it is purely for ratings that they probably will be included in the Rose bowl vs. Michigan. Some may argue that their 2 losses came to teams in the top 3 of the country, but in those two losses they were blown out 91-45.

Man we need a playoff system...

At the time they played them, Penn State was 17th.

why not a playoff with the top 8 and have those sponsored for big money. and then have bowl games for all the other teams that would normally be in bowls, just not in the top games. could still get their money and have a true champion.

the only thing that you are forgetting about is conference champions, if you win your conference you get an automatic invite to the playoffs. so most likly #8 will be knocked out by at least the Big XII champ with Oaklahoma or Nebraska, then there is also the ACC champ that would knock out #7 with Georgia Tech or Wake Forest.

I would much rather see this happen, keep the BCS like it was last year, having 4 bowls, Flordia vs Ohio State in lets say the Rose Bowl, and Michigan vs USC in the Orange or any of them really, then winners of those bowl games go on to the BCS title game a week later. That way you keep the bowls and still have a playoff

The other bowls will slowly die off and cease to exist in a 8 or 4 team playoff.
