2 unrepentant about selling Katrina gift

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A church that wanted to do something special for Hurricane Katrina victims gave a $75,000 house, free and clear, to a couple who said they were left homeless by the storm. But the couple turned around and sold the place without ever moving in, and went back to New Orleans.

"Take it up with God," an unrepentant Joshua Thompson told a TV reporter after it was learned that he and the woman he identified as his wife had flipped the home for $88,000.

I don't even know what to say. That really is horrible.

Clearly what they did was morally wrong, but did they ever cross any legal lines?

On the surface it appears to be incredibly selfish, but if the $75K house was given to them because they were homeless (and a NO refugee), is it any different than if the church had given them $75K to buy a house?
They just chose to purchase one in their home town, and they also increased the value of the gift in the process, which may allow them to put some furniture in it.
When you look at it in that light, it is not quite so reprehensible.

Exactly, a great point. They took the home (which most likely was at a good price), sold it for more money and helped 2 fams in the process. Sounds like good business to me.

You beat me to it. I do not think that anyone can blame them for wanting to return home. Plus, I have been to Memphis. Given the choice between Memphis and post-Katrina New Orleans, give me the Big Easy any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The "Take it up with God..." statement is priceless.

Guys, read the whole article. Towards the end of the article it comes to light that the couple weren't married and some other things came to light that they lied to the church about.
