MLL approves rules changes for 2007

Postby Sonny on Sat Nov 18, 2006 8:51 am

Boston, MA – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced three rules changes that will be in effect for the 2007 season, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross.

“Our goal is to keep Major League Lacrosse the most unique and intriguing brand of lacrosse played for both our fans and players,” said Gross.

The three rule changes are below:

· Move the two-point arc back to 16 yards away (currently 15).

· Create the same new stick dimension requirements as NCAA.

· Enforce “pull-strings” as making a stick illegally altered and thus cannot re-enter the game.

I haven't heard anything about it. I can say as a goalie that all of these are welcome changes. I whole-heartedly agree with the stick dimensions and pull string argument. Guys with sticks that withhold the ball are certainly more prone to getting crushed by defenders' slugging checks. I wonder if they will enforce slashing a little more now as well. I personally believe that the fourth pole would add to the excitement of the games, but my vote doesn't count, obviously. These guys can dodge on just about anyone, but it would allow the defenses to get more in sync and have a better plan. Maybe in the future . . . Excited to hear about who the two expansion teams will be in 2008.
Always on point . . .
