I would argue that it would be better to stay under 32. THe state tournament the MSHL is considering running would only take 4 teams.

Rumor - and I stress it's a rumor - is that Osseo will not go Varsity because of their AD.

I contacted Rich Matter, the Assistant director of the MSHSL, and he said the following about the MSHSL Tournament:
"The tournament format would most likely be; the teams would be divided
into 4 sections based on geography. The four sections would playoff
down to a section champion. Four teams would then come to the State for
a two day tournament. This is not set in stone, but has been past
practice."

High School teams
What I have heard about Osseo is that they have some support but where a problem comes in is that the Osseo school district has Osseo and Maple Grove. To add one, you have to add the other and that creates more funding issues?
I would like to see some new schools pick up lacrosse, especially teams out side of the TC's.

Chris' post is a new information to me - and assuming it's true, a step in the right direction.

From what I understand is that even if there are not 32 teams, the AD's can agree to do a playoff system. It would not be sponsored by the MSHSL.
The MBSLA board has attended a AD meeting (all the ADs of the schools in a sport get together and determine conferences, scheduling, etc.) and offered to host a MSHSL teams playoff if needed.
I am confident some sort of playoff will happen for the MSHSL teams. What it will look like I have no idea.
32 teams? Schools still have alot of time to apply for MSHSL status so it could happen, but my guess is 28, and next year over 32.
Burnsville is another possible that I have heard of.
I also assume that we should see a conference alignment and schedule dates made public soon.
COACHES ASSOCIATION
On a side note, the MSHSL and AD's do not get involved with "All Americans" and other types of individual recognition. Typically a Coaches Association for that sport will be created to make these determinations and the MSHSL will recognize it. The coaches association also gets involved with Rules Exceptions. Brant Chalupsky, of Prior Lake, is forming this Coaches Association and an email has been sent out for a meeting next Saturday to discuss further and to elect a board.
All MSHSL coaches are encouraged to attend.
Check out www.mbsla.org for location/times.

MSHSL Organization
The other information I have heard from the AD's is that there will be 4 conferences. All varsity programs will also NOT be playing any teams that do not have varsity status.
As far as the state tourney goes, there is certainly going to be a state tournament but it will not be run by the MSHSL if there are under 32 teams. The girls have not had a sponsored tourney yet but they do have things like state championship trophies, awards, etc...it just does not have the MSHSL logo.

"All varsity programs will also NOT be playing any teams that do not have varsity status. "
I don't want to go to far with this conversation because who knows what the end result will look like, but I believe for now it is up to each conference to decide and atleast one conference has said "out of conference games can be scheduled against anyone".
I forgot to add in my last post that the MBSLA offer to host a playoff was not needed as the ADs have been running the girls succesfully and will be doing the same for the boys as Jesse said.

"5. The group talked about scheduling and debated if MSHSL teams should only play other MSHSL teams. The girls played both the first two years of MSHSL sanctioning. Now, there are enough MSHSL teams that they only play other MSHSL teams. The group decided that our goal should be not to alienate anyone at this point. We want a successful transition from club to MSHSL so we all need to work together." -Boy's Lacrosse Meeting Summary on the MSHSL Website

The October 9th MSHSL meeting minutes should clear it up, because I do think it was decided it is up to each conference if MSHSL teams can play MBSLA teams. Note: there are a conferences where all the teams went MSHSL (i.e. Classic Lake, Lake II) but there are a few conferences where all but 1 or 2 went and the ADs want to keep the rivalries.

So what will happen then to the remaining teams in the MBSLA? How will the disbanding of conferences/playoffs work out?

Anyone else see a disturbing geographic trend between this list and the varsity list.....
