Canada troops battle 10-foot Afghan marijuana plants

Postby KnoxVegas on Thu Oct 12, 2006 8:57 pm

OTTAWA, Canada (Reuters) -- Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of marijuana plants 10 feet tall.

General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defense staff, said Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.

"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices. ... And as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests," he said in a speech in Ottawa, Canada.

I would think that after conducting their training in the indoor "forests" of British Columbia that they would be very well familiar with the environment.
There's only one thing you can do when you face an enemy in a situation like this - you've gotta smoke 'em out!!

I was once in Victoria for work and we took a harbour cruise. It was a lovely evening and at one point we found ourselves right next to the western fleet of the Canadian navy at Esquimalt. It was a good five to ten minutes before the Canadian Coast Guard arrived on the spot and asked us to leave the area. Nothing more than to please leave the area.

Not a sermon. Just a thought.

My grandmother used to live about 2 blocks from that base. I never tried, but I'm sure if I wanted to (at the time anyways), I could have wandered around there for hours without being noticed...
