The best the Republicans can do is deflect the problem by bringing up past incidents. Just pathetic.

The death of Mary Jo Kopechne, while tragic, is not at all relevant to Speaker Hastert's current situation. What is relevant is the hypocrisy that constantly spews from Capitol Hill because wasn't the supposed hypocrisy of all Republicans one of the main rallying cries echoing from the Left (not all Democrats) since this scandal broke? "Republicans say they are for morals but look! they are pedophiles or cover up for pedophiles. What hypocrites!"

If a Republican Congressman chooses to address what he views as hypocrisy coming from Sen. Kennedy by pointing out the Senator's previous misdeeds then I believe he has that right. I do not know if it is politically wise since the American people have never shown the desire to hold Sen. Kennedy responsible for driving a car off of a bridge, leaving a woman to drown, cowering in a hotel, attempting to establish an alibi, and then hiding behind his family name. Of course, given the ugly state of American politics this might even be classified as a "clean" campaign.

I think all members of Congress would be best served by keeping a low profile on this case and doing a little less finger pointing. There is still a heck of a lot of investigating to do and who knew what when might find a lot of folks on both sides of the aisle in hot water. However, the rhetoric will continue right up until election day and then all of a sudden this issue will not be the crisis it is now. I hope I'm wrong about that.

It was the moment that transformed him from simply being John and Bobby's brother.
