Anyone play any Fall Ball games yet?
GVSU played in a Augustana tourney last weekend and came out 4-1. Played Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State and Augustana twice. I beleive we have Hope and Calvin also on schedule.

Dearborn is set to play Eastern at home this Saturday. We are also scheduled to play Saginaw Valley (prospective new B-Team) at their place on Sunday.

Saginaw Valley and Grand Valley have a huge rivalry when i comes to football, it would be nice to extend that to lacrosse. Let me know how that goes.

MSU went 2-1 in games played:
Lindenwood: 6-2 win
Seton Hill: 5-1 win
Wheeling Jesuit: 6-4 loss

Michigan went 2-0-1 in games played:
beating Lindenwood and Seton Hill (not sure of the scores) and tying WJ 6-6.

Rather then play MSU in the semi-finals Michigan forfeited the game, sending MSU straight to the championship game, where they lost against WJ.

Just curious why Michigan forfeited their semi-final game?

Forfeit is an interesting way to put it. Not sure you can forfeit a fall scrimmage. We decided to go home and give our spot to Seton Hill. WJU then altered the format and skipped the "semis" (they ran it kind of as a tournament with their team assured of a semi spot) and just played MSU for the final scrimmage. Lindenwood and Seton Hill also went home.

We had gotten all we wanted out of the day. When we signed up for the event we emphasized that we did not want to play any MCLA teams (we never do in the fall in structured scrimmages), and to be honest, we definitely don't want to play a big rival like MSU until the season. WJU then added Lindenwood and MSU after we had committed. No hard feelings, it just wasn't what we had wanted out of the event. It was also a really long day, and to play two more scrimmages would have been too much.

We got what we needed, playing our young guys against Seton Hill, mostly our older guys against WJU (tied them on a last second shot), and our young guys again against Lindenwood (who traveled without their head coach, Justin Combs or either of their goalies - playing a pretty brave non-goalie in the cage).

Thanks to Coach Tyska and WJU for putting on the event. They are going to have a solid squad this year.

We have scrimmages in two weeks at Ohio Wesleyan with OWU and the Columbus men's team (mostly Ohio State alums).

Carnegie Mellon Fall Ball

Postby cgarrigues on Tue Oct 10, 2006 8:09 am

From the Tartan, CMU's student paper:

The Carnegie Mellon men’s lacrosse club opened its 2006 fall season on Saturday, playing four games at the Colonial Fall Classic — a day-long tournament hosted by Robert Morris University. The Tartans faced Bishop’s University, Seton Hill University, Saint Vincent College, and Lees-McRae College — falling to all four teams.

GVSU beat Ferris 11-10 with 1 min to go. It was a close game but the weather was horrible. 3+ inches on the turf and a heavy downfall of snow. We had to play with a combination of yellow and hot pink lacrosse balls to see it.

Next for us is Calvin on the 19th.
