Extension keeps Jennings with NLL through 2009 season
10/02/2006
The National Lacrosse League has announced that Commissioner Jim Jennings has signed a three-year contract extension. The extension keeps Jennings in place as Commissioner through the 2009 NLL season. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity by our Board of Governors to continue to serve in my role as Commissioner of the National Lacrosse League", said Jennings. "I am excited for the future as we continue to grow our league and the sport of lacrosse as a whole."
Since being appointed prior to the 2001 season, Jennings has overseen the growth of the league from a nine-team eastern regional league to a thirteen-team national league, with teams across the US and Canada. The league has also made strides in television coverage by securing a weekly national television broadcast on VERSUS (formerly known as OLN).
"We've got a great league partnership with Reebok, a regularly scheduled national game of the week and expansion into New York and Chicago", said Russ Cline, owner of the Philadelphia Wings and chairman of the league's Executive Committee. "Ownership is very happy, and we're pleased to have Jim Jennings in position to build on what he's already accomplished."
Jennings, who was appointed Commissioner on September 17th, 2000, will begin his seventh season as Commissioner when the 2007 season opens on December 30th, 2006.
