NY Titans Acquire Casey Powell

(New York, NY) - The New York Titans acquired one of the most recognizable names in lacrosse today as they made a trade with the Portland LumberJax for Casey Powell. Powell, a former NLL All-Star, was a three time NCAA first team All-American at Syracuse University and served as captain of Team USA in the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships this past summer. The Titans also acquired Greg Peyser in the trade. In exchange New York sent Tyler Heavenor and a conditional 2008 Entry Draft pick to the LumberJax.

Casey Powell was the first overall pick in the 1998 NLL Entry Draft taken by the Rochester Knighthawks out of Syracuse University. In his NLL career he has played 52 games and has totaled 192 points on 79 goals and 113 assists and has collected 246 loose balls.

At Syracuse University Powell was a four time All-American, including three first team honors and one second team honor. Powell helped Syracuse win the 1995 NCAA National Championship and was named the Division I Most Outstanding Player two years in a row (1997, 1998). He was the Division I National Attackman of the Year in 1998 and the Division I National Midfielder of the Year in 1996. With the Orangemen Powell compiled a 46-12 career record. He was a four time NCAA All-Tournament team member (1995-98) and was named to Lacrosse magazine's All-Century Team.

"My staff and I are very excited to bring Casey to NY," said Titans Head Coach Adam Mueller. "Casey's resume speaks for itself but what we are most excited about is the fact that his indoor game has improved each year he has played in the NLL and we know that will continue. His stick work, foot speed and creativity will be a great addition to our offense as we continue to build our team."

The Titans also acquired Greg Peyser in the trade. Peyser was a third round pick (29th overall) by the LumberJax in the 2006 Entry Draft out of Johns Hopkins University. In college the Lloyd Harbor, New York native was a 2006 preseason Second Team All-American, was named to the 2005 NCAA All-Tournament Team and was named a 2005 Honorable Mention USILA All-American.

In exchange for Powell and Peyser the Titans traded forward Tyler Heavenor and a conditional draft pick in the 2008 Entry Draft to Portland. Heavenor was a rookie last season for the Edmonton Rush and scored 14 points on six goals and eight assists. New York acquired Heavenor in the Expansion Draft.

This news was very surprising. I thought Casey Powell wanted the West Coast life-style and was establishing "roots" in Portland. What gives?

You maybe right on that. I may have my Powell brothers mixed up.

Casey is only there for the star appeal-surprising because he really isn't that good indoors. Ryan is much better inside. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Casey doesn't play and waits for NLL-outdoors.
