Jon Thompson Named Assistant Coach at Brown

Providence, Rhode Island - When first year Brown head men's lacrosse coach Lars Tiffany went looking for an assistant coach, he didn't need to look any further than his doorstep. After a national search, Tiffany has named former Brown lacrosse standout and assistant coach Jon Thompson as his first assistant coach.

"We are very fortunate to have a man with the boundless passion and enthusiasm for Brown Lacrosse which Jon possesses," said Tiffany. "He is determined to put Brown Lacrosse back on the map, and he has proven to me that he will stop at no end."

Thompson, one of the top scorers in Brown lacrosse history, has been an assistant coach at Brown twice before, in 2004 and 2006.

He graduated from Brown in 2003 with a concentration in psychology, was a four-year attackman for the Bears, captaining the team as a senior in 2003. His 137 career points (94 goals, 43 assists) rank 15th in the Brown record book, while his 94 career goals are ninth in the Brown record book.

Thompson was a 2003 USILA honorable mention All-American, and an Academic All-American by the USILA. A two-time All-Ivy and All-New England selection, Thompson played in the Annual STX/USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game. He was also Brown's offensive MVP in 2003.

Thompson began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Brown in 2004, assisting with the Bears' offense, specifically with the attack, while assisting with game substitutions. In 2005, he moved on to Springfield College as its offensive coordinator, where he helped Springfield earn a berth in the NCAA Playoffs and rank in the top 10 nationally in goals per game. He returned to Brown as an assistant coach for the 2006 season.

Thompson is a native of Freeport, Maine, who attended North Yarmouth Academy.
