DENVER – Forward Andrew Burkholder, acquired by the Colorado Mammoth in a trade late in the 2006 season, signed a one-year contract with the National Lacrosse League champions on Friday.
Burkholder, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound left-hander from St. Catharine's, Ontario, made an immediate impact last season. He scored four goals in his Mammoth debut, a 15-11 victory over the Arizona Sting, and finished the season with six goals and seven assists in six games. He then scored four goals in his first career playoff game, helping the Mammoth to an 18-17 overtime victory over the Calgary Roughnecks in the West Division semifinal. He finished the postseason with six goals and one assist in three games.
"Andrew came in here late in the season and immediately bought in to what we were doing," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He worked hard and did a great job of filling a hole we had on the left side of our offense. It will be nice to see what he can do in a full season with our team."
Rookie signings: The Mammoth continued to fill out its 40-man training camp roster this week, signing rookies Chris Gill, Curtis Morwick, Kevin Olson and Craig Willis.

Mammoth Signs Law and Heard, Trades Stapleford
DENVER – Forward Mike Law re-signed with the Colorado Mammoth on Thursday, agreeing to a one-year deal with the National Lacrosse League champions. The Mammoth also agreed to terms of a one-year contract with assistant coach Russ Heard.
Law, who originally signed as a free agent with the Mammoth prior to the 2006 season, scored two goals and added one assist in three games last year. The former Colorado all-state selection at Regis High School and University of Denver All-American was an All-Star for Anaheim in 2004 before sitting out the 2005 season while he completed his first year of law school at DU.
"Mike is a tireless worker and had a great attitude last season despite not being in the lineup most nights," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "We look forward to seeing what he can do this year now that he has had some time to learn our system."
Heard joined the Mammoth prior to the 2006 season and took over as the team's offensive coordinator under head coach Gary Gait. The Mammoth was the highest scoring team in the NLL last season, piling up 200 goals for a 12.5 per game average.
"Russ really helps with the development of some of our younger players and his knowledge of the game is invaluable," Govett said.
Stapleford dealt: The Mammoth also announced on Thursday that it has traded transition player Scott Stapleford to the Portland LumberJax in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2007 NLL entry draft. Stapleford tallied eight goals and 22 assists in 33 games over three seasons with Colorado.
