Lacrosse Legend Join Roughnecks Coaching Staff

Calgary, AB - Kevin Alexander, a member of the Canadian lacrosse Hall of Fame since 1991, today joined the Calgary Roughnecks as an assistant coach. He will concentrate on the club's attack strategy, while head coach Chris Hall will handle defence.

"Kevin Alexander is acknowledged as having one of the greatest offensive minds in all of lacrosse," said General Manager Kurt Silcott. "We are looking forward to seeing his innovative ideas being implemented."

Among the many awards collected by Alexander in a long field and box lacrosse career are:

– Two Mann Cups with the Victoria Shamrocks in 1979 and 1983 (In 1979, he was the game's MVP

– Two Indoor World lacrosse championships with the Buffalo Bandits in 1992 and 1993. In 19 games with Buffalo, he scored 61 points (47g, 14a) and collected 97 loose balls.

– The Minto Cup with Victoria in 1976. He also collected the MVP trophy

– He was a player, and often captain, of the Canadian men's field lacrosse team from 1982 to 1994.

– In 1986, at the world field lacrosse championship, he was named the tourney's best midfielder

– He is a seven-time captain and two-time coach of perennial Canadian champions, the Victoria field lacrosse team

– He was head coach of the National Lacrosse League's expansion Syracuse Smash in 1998

– In 300 career lacrosse games, he garnered 1,381 points (797 goals and 584 assists

Alexander lives in Victoria where he is employed as a welding instructor at Camosun College.
