Any word on what happened from people who were there?

UNM Lacrosse Team delegation called me this afternoon and gave me the scope:

From the RMLC Meeting in Boulder, Colorado. The three new teams added to the RMLC were Westminster College, Northern Arizona and the University of New Mexico. Metro State was turned down but will try again next year.

All the best,

John

Were any of the 3 new teams added to Division A?

Does the RMLC now have enough teams in Division A to get back the AQ?

As I understand, Westminster went B, so no new A teams. Not that the RMLC really needs an AQ.

Give me 1-2 years and the Lobos of the University of New Mexico will be in the Division A where we belong. For now it is about development and humble beginnings. We have a hard road ahead of us but we will get there.

All the best,

We've seen a lot of growth and potential for more growth next year in RMLC-B (Metropolitan State, CU Colorado Springs, Weber State, etc).

This has got me wondering about growth for RMLC-A. Besides Wyoming and UNM, what other schools with NCAA Div 1A football programs are possible RMLC-A candidates?

None, but the RMLC-A drafts the Univ. of Hawaii-Manoa campus when they're ready!

I believe Northern Arizona is Division 1A in Football so they would be a good candidate for Division A in the future. Besides they pretty much right now could compete in the Division A. We will see what happens and how they do.

All the best,

I just checked and NAU is a 1AA football program in the Big Sky Conference. FYI this is the same conference that UNC's football team just joined. Both UNC and NAU are similarly sized universities.

Has anyone heard anything on CU-Springs and if they establishing a club? What about Mesa State? What a great central location for playoffs every year in Grand Junction.

I discovered that New Mexico State has a Division 1A Football team and are just about the only other school, remotely close, that doesn't yet have a lax team.

I heard that UC-CS may be getting a team together, but not yet, and I haven't heard anything about Mesa State. Like I have said before, Mesa State is in the perfect location for the RMLC.

Does anyone think that it's possible that there will come a day when the MCLA has 3 divisions (A, B, C)? This would be similar to NCAA Div 1, 2, and 3.

Hey Scott;

You are right New Mexico State is D1A in Football and in everything else.
New Mexico as a state is a little behind the pack as far as High School and youth Lacrosse here. This compared to Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Texas.

This year we will have a 4-5 Team City High School League in Albuquerque. In the south around Las Cruces where New Mexico State is there is no Lacrosse at all. The nearest Lax to New Mexico State is in maybe Lubbock, Texas or Tucson, Arizona. But look for that to change also with the expansion of the game in the Santa Fe and Albuquerque Metro area. The Youth Team in Santa Fe is really taking off and my Son enjoys playing up there.

UNM has a lot of work to go Div. A , but we will get there. Look for New Mexico State to be up and running in 2-3 years and in Div. A in 3-4 years.

So there will be some expansion in Division A in a few years with New Mexico State, Wyoming and UNM.
